Awareness When Using Social Media

A mindfulness practice - this can come in handy, especially where social media is used daily by most.

Did you know the average person spends 2 hours 24 minutes on social media per day. The recommended use is 30 minutes or less.

Try this mindfulness meditation!

Hahahaha oops  Working online sure makes that an impossible goal to achieve! I guess my excuse is that I try to balance it with weekends offline as much as I can :woman_shrugging:

This is a lovely awareness exercise, @Silverbear- thanks for sharing it!

Does spells8 count as social media? I do have Instagram and love TikTok but don’t have more than 20 mins per day at a couple minutes each as I am tight on time…

Hahaha I was counting my “computer time” across all platforms and media- but when you put it like this, Khadija, perhaps time in the Spells8 community warrants its own category, separate from other platforms :+1:

What with the pandemic and lockdowns and all, many people’s social interactions have become completely reliant on social media. And I guess it should be considered that there’s a big difference between unhealthy and healthy social media interactions! :heart_decoration:

Yes defiantly… in my opinion to me spells8 is healthy since I can interact with people which is much needed considering the COVID situation and the fact that I do not get out enough here to socialise face to face… Spells8 is also educational for me as I learn so much with all the information… on the other hand TikTok to me is very addictive and if I were not busy I am sure I would loose track of time… so yes there defiantly is a big difference…

Spells8 is also not manipulated by algorithms or social sway. Its a real community of like minded individuals and a very positive atmosphere.

Spells8 would, by definition count as social media - Social media is any website and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. However, some are more toxic than others.

Where spells8 is a community of like-minded people with generally the same goals – looking for peace, education and spirituality…whereas, places like Facebook and TikTok tend to be more of an ‘outlet’ for silliness & dog memes, or the other spectrum; anger, political junk, social justice warriors, etc…

I create content for businesses on social media - that includes YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, MeWe… ugh I am probably on ALL of them lol. Literally on the computer ALL day long. :disappointed_relieved:

I definitely don’t spend 2 hours and 24 minutes a day on social media!
I remember when I opened a Twitter account a long, long time ago in 2009, one of my followers said her mother restricted her time on the app to just 4 hours a day.
I couldn’t imagine being on Twitter for 4 hours or more!
Facebook was down for 6 hours yesterday and I couldn’t help but think, “Too bad it doesn’t happen more often. Make people go outside and touch grass!”

I vote for Social Witchcraft, but that’s just me. And Spells8 is definitely healthy for me!

Is it weird that I don’t have any of that stuff? No Facebook or Twitter. I avoid YouTube like the plague and have never been on tiktok. I am on this site and I play one online game.

YouTube is probably the only one I actually enjoy… and it has helped me fix many broken home items LOL

That’s a good point lol.

I was just about to ask the same thing! I choose to look at spells8 as self-care. It helps me to engage with people who are on a similar bath and who teach me daily. However, I get that little internal nudging when I know I’m avoiding things that need to get done. Like now, for instance!

Four hours a day on Twitter?! Geez, that just triggers anxiety in me! I don’t even like being on there for business purposes!

You’re welcome!

I just deleted Facebook yesterday I knew it all along but with the new whistle blower it was time to make a stand

I deleted every social media platform except Spells8 about 5 months ago. I have 1 other now because of my daughter initially but also have a very close friend on there. I probably spend under 5 minutes a day on that one. I’m on Spells8 multiple times a day for more than a few minutes
