Can We Really Hear The Gods

As part of working with a silent entity (it’s the closest I can get to permission to share his identity :laughing:). I’d like to share some of the benefits of listening.

Picture by Bruce Rolff

First. We’re busy, we’re noisy. Yes, I said we’re noisy, not the world, us. What do I mean. Well I’ll share a little of my daily routine.

I get up, I check my phone and clear off messages (noise).
I get ready to the sound of the radio (noise)
I drink my cuppa with the news, to checkup on the world. I put the news on (noise)
I light a candle to the gods (after all this noise) :person_facepalming:
I go to work. As I drive, the radios on (noise)
I come home, catch up on chores to the radio (noise)
I sit and relax, maybe read a book, but in the background is either the radio/tv (noise)
I then go to bed, exhausted!!!
I wake up exhausted, and I do it all over again. :person_shrugging::thinking:

Stop! What this spirit has been teaching, is what is silence. It’s not about going to a retreat to get silence, no, I’m in no position to do that. It’s about listening not hearing, but really learning to listen. The gods don’t shout (well most don’t, but Loki does, :laughing: but can you blame him, how noisy is our world :person_facepalming:)

We need sustainability and endurance in this life, not a quick hit.

Lighting a candle, doing a ritual, catching up on our favourite witch channel, is a quick hit, it fills us, then it’s gone. How do we get sustainability and endurance in our spiritual life, well, we need to draw on the energy from the gods or nature, and we can only do that if we listen, and we can only listen if we turn off our noise.

So in the morning, don’t check the phone.
Don’t turn on the news/radio
Don’t light the candle
Don’t do that ritual
Don’t read that book
Make your cuppa, and sit and listen and you will receive a morning message from the gods (your god/deity/spirit).

And your day will feel different. Over time, that dissatisfied feeling will start to fade, you’ll start to feel content and at peace despite the chaos and noise. You’ll start to wake up refreshed. Yes we need to stay in tune with world events, but not every day.

It’s hard to do, because we’re being asked to change, perhaps a routine that we’ve done for years, but it’s worth it. And on your day off, don’t fill it with noise, try and do whatever you’re doing, in quiet - try taking one day, every month, and create your own retreat, absolute silence, and do, hear, read nothing, - you’ll hear the gods.

This new deity, is teaching me, that the gods don’t scream. They’re not in the storm, they’re not in the hustle of life, they whisper to us and that whisper breathes into our mind and body a gentle calming peaceful energy.

The message is easy, the world is noisy enough, do I need to add more?
My first message was, “What are you doing? You’re out there doing stuff for me but you’re not with me

It’s nice to finally be able to share some of what I’m experiencing with this entity. I hope this is helpful, let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions on more ways we can do this.

Bless :green_heart::beers:

Beautifully written - this whole piece is a work of art, @tracyS! :heart: Silence is a spiritual gift. By getting away from the crazy hustle of the mundane world (and putting that phone/laptop away!) we position ourselves in a better and more open place to connect with the divine that is both within and around us.

Really loved reading this - thank you for sharing it with us, Tracy! :pray: :blush:

This is something for me to think about because I have something making noise at all times. Even when I sleep I have the TV on. I’ll have to think about this because I get nervous without something on after a while. It’s like I’m addicted.

The older I get, the more I love and crave silence.

In the past I have invited the deity I was closest to along when I went out for enjoyment. Yes, they’d be there anyway, but I wanted that extra connection. I might allow the noise of the learning or entertainment to deafen me for a time, but on the way home, I’d remember to check in with the deity and reconnect.

When I did a word search puzzle and found something not quite obvious, I’d always thank my closest deity. It was a sharing, a closeness I wanted to celebrate. Sure, it could have been my subconscious mind seeing a pattern my conscious mind wasn’t aware of. Then again, there was always one word which was missed in logical pattern searching as though the deity were reminding me of their presence and/or wanted the last word.

As for noise, when it is constantly around, you tune it out- go deaf to it, like going nose blind to the scents always around. When there is sudden silence, the silence itself is loud!

Excellent reference! We do get addicted to things other than drugs: sound, movement, companionship, activity, certain foods or favorite flavors, the feeling of fur or a lover’s caress or even commonly sensed emotions, the smells of incense or cooking, constant reading, or even sitting still. When they aren’t there anymore, we jones for them. This feels like anxiety.

Don’t get me wrong: these things create a sense of safety. However, they do require moderation in order to continue doing their work. Without them, we are unable to use them as tools of self defense.

Silence and darkness reset our senses of hearing and sight just as the smell of coffee resets our sense of smell in an incense store, sorrow resets happiess, and pain resets comfort. Sitting still calms the muscles that move the most, and movement resets relaxation. Cold allows us to crave coziness, and heat allows us to enjoy the chill. Without both in such pairs of opposites, we would be unable to find pleasure in either- not that they wouldn’t exist, only our senses wouldn’t be attuned enough to use the differences in our paths of survival.

@BryWisteria Thankyou lovely :green_heart:
@Amethyst I’m with you on that. I have tinnitus so I’ve had noise, to drown out the stringed orchestra in my head :laughing:, but I’ve noticed that less noise, has, gradually reduced the volume of the strings of my tinnitus, instead of Wagner, I’m getting Mozart. :crazy_face:
@danika Yep, definitely :grin:
@georgia Very much a yin and Yang, life, isn’t it. I like the sound of your deity, who were they, if you can share that is. :green_heart:

It actually varies. I’ll work with whomever wants to work with me, no questions asked, no names required. However, I do notice regular changes in the personalities. Sometimes, we have to take time to get to know each other a bit to build trust. There are many positive beings out there! :rainbow_heart:

Let’s see… Before Covid it was a thin, tall male. I imagined glasses, so he might have been one crossed over from Earth. When we first met, he was shy and unsure of himself, though he knew he had more power than I did. We worked to build his confidence. By the time he left, he was holding out the arms of a bat winged cape and seemed quite vast. I don’t ask much because I have what I need for the most part.

Yet the one to whom he handed me was a butch Viking female who seemed to believe the admonition to “take care” of me meant in a mobster sense (cement boots in a river). She didn’t bother getting to know me, so I fought her every step of the way.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to work on this, I think. Sigh. But I love my TV and music so!

Of course. We all do. I keep a CD playing all day for my bird. He gets pretty upset if I forget, and even asks for certain types of music. I don’t always understand, but I try to give him the best I can. The music holds his attention, even though he doesn’t play with it or interact in any way. Sometimes I can recognize the pattern of starts and stops when he sings along. It seems to be all he wants to keep his mind occupied. Since he doesn’t build nests or play with anything anymore, I have to keep his interest so he stays active and alive, not bald or starving himself- because I love my bird and want to keep him around as long as possible.

I guess what I’m trying to say is…

Me too.

It could also be a symptom of your anxiety! (if you don’t have anxiety or something similar and I remember incorrectly, please disregard :rofl:)

My child has an anxiety disorder as well as an auditory processing disorder. She can’t handle the silence because then her mind becomes too loud. Also, any small sound gets interpreted by her brain and sometimes it doesn’t do it properly. The noise, even if it’s just music, helps her mind focus and maintain balance. Otherwise, her anxiety and ADP would be all over the place and her mental health would plummet.

Interesting. I’ll add her experience to my theories on silence.

Probably, because there for a while I couldn’t go to the doctor’s or grocery store without music in my ear. It helped calm me down.

Experience This

Put headphones on. Listen to the gods. Then try it yourself. Anywhere you can touch base to the ground. (For those who can’t get outside, the gods will whisper through your floor/walls) :people_hugging:

The runes are: :tiwaz: & :uruz: use mud or even water if blood is not for you. :green_heart:
