Crock Pot Pumpkin Hot Chocolate
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours 35 minutes
Servings: 12
Ingredients:
1 gallon of whole milk
½ cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling mix)
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ cup granulated sugar
22 ounces milk chocolate chips
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
For serving (optional):
marshmallows
whipped cream
chocolate sauce
Directions:
In your crock pot, combine all ingredients and stir.
Place the lid on and set the slow cooker to heat for 2 ½ hours on high.
Stir every half hour or so.
Once the time is up, ladle into mugs and top with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and cinnamon, if desired.
Notes:
Toppings are not included in the nutritional value.
You can use semi-sweet or dark chocolate if you’d like.
If you want more pumpkin flavor, add 1 cup instead of 1/2 cup.
Make sure you stir this through cooking so the chocolate fully melts and ingredients do not settle.
I think it’s fun to set everything out as a hot chocolate bar. Set out all the different toppings in bowls so guests can top their drinks however they prefer!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Can I use another type of chocolate?
Yes, this depends on your flavor preference. We went with milk chocolate to keep it on the sweeter side, but you can add dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate as well.
Why do I need to stir this?
This helps the chocolate chips from clumping and helps them easily melt through the cooking process, and ensures that everything is getting mixed together properly.
Can other milks be used?
The whole milk makes it richer and thicker. I have not tested this recipe with other types of milk, but I think it should be okay to use almond milk, oat milk, or even 2% milk. I do not recommend skim milk for this. It is far too watery.
How can I get a more pumpkin flavor?
If you want a stronger pumpkin flavor, use 1 cup of pumpkin puree instead of 1/2 cup.
How long can I keep this hot chocolate on warm?
If you are intending to serve a crowd, you most likely will want to keep it warm. This can be left on warm for about 3-4 hours (make sure to stir occasionally.)
How do I store leftovers?
This can be stored in a lidded container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. You can reheat in the crock pot, microwave, or on the stove. I do not recommend freezing this recipe.
