Does anyone else love writing their own Spells?

Next week it’ll be six months that I’ve been practicing and I’ve been writing my own Spells since day one!

I have a few Spell Books, but I much prefer writing my own. The words and rhymes just come so naturally to me.

The Spell Books that I have I just don’t seem to like any of them LOL!

I like doing my own thing! I like lighting the candles for the Goddesses/Gods I want present, grabbing a bunch of random herbs for the Spell I’m reciting, essential oils, etc and mixing them together and then reciting my Spell.

It depends. Some I write, some I find, some I change bits here and there to fit my needs. Sometimes I’ve got a good idea for a prayer or a spell, and sometimes I’m stumped. It all works out in the end!

But I do envy you for your talent for rhyming! I have to use a website for that!

It’s just the Spells I like writing. The rhyming I usually use Miriam Webster for, but sometimes I just get these rhymes in my head and I’m like woah :exploding_head: where did that come from!

For prayers, I don’t write my own lol! I always use someone else’s! :joy:

I’m like @Amethyst I like writing my own or changing ones that I find in my books. Sometimes what’s written I. The books is exactly what I need so I use it. Prayers I very seldom use someone else’s and I rarely write mine down. They are usually on the fly and whatever comes in my head I say.

Have you ever used Rhyme Zone? It’s awesome to help me figure out words that rhyme!

@Mystique I brought these beautiful prayer beads and they came with prayers. I also get a lot of my resources from this one shop on Etsy and I absolutely love her prayers!

@Amethyst I’m adding that website to my favorites! I’ve never heard of it! Thank you, Doll!

I tend to write my own spells more often than not. This is usually because of the way I practice :laughing: I am more of a folk witch than anything else - I don’t (usually) hold structured spells and rituals. Things are done off the cuff when I need them, and I hardly ever use chants or incantations anymore :woman_shrugging:

My spells are simple but I sometimes write the basic idea down because I depend on repetition. It is good to get it right because I repeat it several times and consistency is important. However, it is never more than a good sentence.

I might be more like Megan. I concentrate on intent and try to slow it down so I feel it strongly. Getting words to rhyme is not as important as feeling them (to me).

It takes energy to do it and I’m usually a bit exhausted after.

My favorite way to get in the zone is to meditate, relax, then use knotted string or my 'prayer bracelet". Slowly tie knots (usually 9) and repeat my intentions. - it is a bit like a Witch Ladder. My bracelet is two sets of nine beads which I slide a bit as I repeat the simple casting.

What is a folk witch?

@dan3

I always repeat my Spells three times! I think intent is so important too! Without intent your Spell is nothing!

What kind of Prayer Bracelet? I’m intrigued because I have a few of my own! I got mine from this shop on Etsy and they’re just beautiful! I pray to the Gods/Goddesses twice a day as well as recite other prayers!

It’s one I made for a Witch Challenge a while back. I started wearing it and decided I liked it. Clear quartz and blue tiger eye beads, silver bead spacing for the back.

That is just beautiful! You are very talented!

Do you wanna see the bracelets I wear daily? You’ll love them!

We had some discussion in this fairly recently, but I have no idea where it was. So until others have a chance to jump in with further guidance, I’ll give you a brief overview.

There are two “kinds” of magick. “High Magick” is more ritual and prayers, and “Low Magick” or Folk Magick is more daily use and crafting.

Sure. If you’d like, you can post them in

Sure - post them in the Witchy Goodies area - that way everyone who does that sort of stuff will see them. Georgia linked it but here it is again GOODIES.

Omg I am learning so much in just a few days of being in this Coven! They do not tell you this in books! LOL :squinting_face_with_tongue:! I have read so many books!

Thank you, Georgia!

@dan3 - thank you!

This is so cool! I didn’t know we had that!

We have something called “masterposts” where certain subjects are grouped so they can be easily found. Try the search magnifier at the top for any subject!

I’ve been collecting spells around the forum and main site. Last time I counted was a couple months ago, so I have many more, but I was up to 12,000 individual spells. I’m sure I haven’t found them all yet! For a bit of trivia, the movie The Little Witch features a giant book containing only 7000 spells!

Update: I cleaned out my tablet, where I’m doing all my collecting for now and saved them to my external HD. Total spells 16,000 and counting! On Spells8 and Infinite Roots alone!

That’s very impressive - you’ve got a lot of wisdom and magick saved in your collection! :books: :blush:

I practice a region-based craft, generally focused on more practical work toward my family, my community, and the spirits of the land. My practice isn’t religion-based, though it is religious to me, if that makes sense. There are no rules for me to follow besides what my own heart decides, and structured rituals, spells, circles, etc. are rarely done, of at all.

Spells :thinking: yes I do write spells I suppose although I call them rituals as they normally involve invoking a God or Demon to join me so are they spells? :person_shrugging::laughing:.

I find music to be a great inspiration, it’s amazing what it makes you feel, then runes start popping in my head and before I know it, I’ve got a ritual/spell :partying_face:
