Ooh. Good to know. I heard about owl and hawk, but not migratory birds. Thank you.
I used to thread purchased quills through a pony bead with a bit of leather lacing out the other side to decorate a Native- style shield, dream catcher, or talking stick. It was usually tight enough to hold, but a dab of glue wouldn’t hurt.
For a shield, I took a hoop and tied a bit of purchased leather in it. Painted the leather with my avatar, here. Then I added beads, feathers, and small bags containing elemental herbs. This can be done using protection herbs, manifestation, whatever. I then hung it on my wall with a talking stick from camp, also decorated with beads and feathers.
Sorry I don’t have pictures. This was done many decades ago and left behind when I first moved from my childhood home. It was pretty nice looking, but it bordered on appropriation for me. I’d only wanted to honor the Old Ways, not to sell the things I made. Now that I see the difference, I’ve grown away from the crafts I used to enjoy and use to help me handle stress and heal from trauma.
