I did it. I just did my first in person, three card readings for two different people at work!!
I want to thank everyone participating in this months tarot challenge, whether you’re doing it daily or just once as it’s been fantastic practice helping others clarify meanings and invaluable experience seeing how others interpret their cards for a prompt.
I took a chance today and let people know I’m practicing and I’d be available to read for them on Sundays.
Two people took me up on my offer today, I pulled three cards after they asked their question and I shuffled thinking about the question. I read the three cards as they related to each other instead of doing a Past, Present, Future spread. I learned this approach from a FB group I’m in but not very active with lately. It’s a format that instinctively makes sense to me. It worked very well for both people’s questions as well.
Did I use the deck guidebooks to look things up to get started? Yes, I did. Once I picked up the main energies of each card, I put the answer together. It’s sort of like making a sentence from the words picked. Or telling a story once you’ve got the overview of the plot.
Honestly can’t get over how wonderful it felt to do the readings and I’m proud I got out of my comfort zone to try this. So. Very. Very. Excited.
That’s amazing, @Artemisia - sounds like the readings went wonderfully! So proud of you for putting yourself out there and giving it a try. A huge congrats to you!
That’s so exciting, @Artemisia I’m so proud of you! That’s a huge step, honestly - I’ve only read for family in person and even then I was sooooo nervous. You did it!!!
I had meant to update you all and say that last Sunday, the word had spread and more people were interested in having a tarot reading. I forgot my Grimalkin deck but I always have a backup on me and used my Crow Tarot deck. I did 5 readings. After my 4th reading the woman asked, do you do readings for people who aren’t present? Turns out she sent a photo of her cards to her hubby at home and he wanted to try. She got him on the phone and we FaceTimed the reading So many firsts!
There were a couple of readings where there would be a card that I wasn’t exactly sure how it fit or more accurately what I referred to but when I gave some general examples to try to fit the card into place, both people confidently said, Oh, no. I know exactly what that’s referring to.
It’s a totally different thing to give a reading in real time in front of someone and try to put pieces together on the spot but it’s forcing/allowing me to push my comfort zone and strengthen my skills. I’m a long way from being able to glance at three cards and give the answer in 30 seconds but I’m enjoying the journey.
That’s so exciting! Honestly, that would make me sooo nervous it’s hard enough struggling to translate the feelings I get into words for the tarot readings I do online. I couldn’t imagine doing it for people who are right in front of me! You should be proud of yourself!
I babble a little bit while I look things up and process how it all fits together coherently but it’s getting easier as I get less nervous. Thankfully they are a great audience, patient with me, and excited to have their cards read. I appreciate the real-time feedback on whether it makes sense, or if it resonates which gives my confidence in my skills a little boost.
That’s probably very important in this case. It really does a good job of making you comfortable enough to get your bearings and figure it all out! I’m sure with more practice, you’re going to be amazing! (more amazing… not that you’re not already amazing lol)
Thats great I remember the first time I read tarot for someone and I didnt even know all about all of the cards but I did my best and gave my interpretations of the cards.
You can really go deep with the cards and you can really get to know people this way!!
My experience was really neat because I never met the person in my life and it was at a store!Anyway I need to start reading for others too!
anyway,
I cant wait to have a reading by you, so let me know if you are ready ill be here for you anytime!
I am so happy for you!!!
I suppose that’s the part I’m the most surprised about. I’m more of an introvert so being social is challenging sometimes for me. Reading cards for people has helped me get to know some of my coworkers better.
That’s courage in my eyes, to read in person for someone you have never met before! I hope to get to that point with my comfort level and skills
