Magical strength in certain times of year?

A question popped into my mind earlier this afternoon: Has anyone found that their magic seems stronger during one time of year versus another?

For example: I’ve always felt an incredibly strong connection to the month of October, as I was born two weeks before Halloween. I was never quite sure why this was, only that it was a thing. Could I be on to something?

I have not necessarily felt that my magick is stronger during certain times of the year. I do feel that October is just more of a magical month in general. For me I believe it’s just because of Halloween. It just feels more witchy to me. Lol.

You definitely could be on to something tho. Hopefully someone else will have better insight on this than I do (or I don’t lol ).

I’ve never felt that my magic was stronger during certain times of the year, but I do feel that my connection with the Gods waxes and wanes during the year. This is pretty normal for me and most other Celtic Pagans.

You could be on to something with the fact that October (and May, for that matter) are seen as more liminal times in the Otherworld. There’s talk of a veil between the worlds that gets thinner during the times of Samhain and Bealtaine, making it easier for otherworldly spirits to travel to ours. It could make sense that you’re picking up on this energy, too, and using it to boost any work you do.

May! Now that is intriguing. Might explain a little of why I felt called to Wicca when I was. Appreciate the food for thought!

My personal Magickal strength wanes in the summertime. I don’t do well in super hot nor super cold times. My body simply shuts down. In January to May, I am more sensitive to food allergies than any other time of year. It’s a physically low time for me, but Magick doesn’t wane until it gets too warm to light candles and incense. In July, I go through a natural shut down, which eases for my birth month. Fall is usually an intense time for me, culminating in a reawakening of Magick for winter months. This has been my pattern for so long that I feel like it ought to be normal for everyone to go through something similar, each in their own way. I’ve heard such a pattern called biofeedback, but I never studied it.

That’s really interesting! Thanks for sharing this! Since we’re well into May, I hope your allergies ease up soon, if they haven’t already. <3

Of course! I’m happy to help  It’s always interesting to notice different patterns like this in our personal practices. It helps us understand ourselves and our energy a lot better.

Yes, I have noticed it… mostly I feel my magic is strongest at Imbolc, Litha and Samhain. I believe Imbolc as that is the first Sabbat I participated in as a witch. Litha because I LOVE warmth and sunshine, and the beginning of summer is special to me. And Samhain because (like others have said) it is the “witches holiday” and I think most of us feel a very strong connection to that time. But I also notice that I feel extra powerful when I have others with whom I celebrate the sabbat or esbate. As a solitary it can often be hard to muster the electric feeling of power during a ritual that I always feel when I am in the company of other witches practicing our craft! Thank you for this excellent topic!

You’re so very welcome! I’m glad to hear I’m not alone in this, either!

I always wondered what I was missing. Thank you for the off handed comment that brought light!

You’re so welcome!! I myself didn’t realize what I was missing until I had a rare opportunity to participate with a friend’s coven when I was visiting on a vacation. While there are many Pros & Cons to both coven membership and being a solitary practitioner, I realized the difference in the energy when we called the quarters to protect our circle… I felt the magic from that moment and even after the circle was opened! Blessed be!

@georgia …do you live in Georgia and get heat stroke??

You should worry about your health :worried::pray:.

No, I live in New Mexico. No heat stroke. Thank you for your concern, though. I had this pattern even while I was growing up in Indiana. Doctors tell me there’s nothing wrong with me. Grandma told me to up my intake of salt in summer to combat symptoms because Grandpa had similar symptoms, but I prefer staying out of the heat as much as possible, wearing cooling neckties, spraying myself with water, using ice packs, and going swimming in the shade of evening to cool off. Hats seem to trap heat while they keep the sun off head and neck, but I wear one if I’m out in the sun for any length of time. Sun umbrellas work better for me, but can be tricky to carry. Wet hair helps, as does ice on my stomach, though it is counter intuitive.
