So the ones in the field are edible? Did you buy a book so you know which are safe to forage? We sometimes get mushrooms growing in our lawn but I think that is from the compost when we top with a dressing mix with seed They do look like the field ones

That was what I saw 
and I didn’t know the one was purple until @Amethyst mentioned it in her post lol fun being color blind 
but there were quite a few yesterday . I always take pictures of them when I’m out before I even join the board , anything that catches my eyes in nature 
. But glad

These ones are edible. I only pick one sort and that is the sort my father taught me to forage for when I was little. They are just an ordinary field mushroom. Never Pick and eat mushrooms unless you are absolutely certain. They generally come up in our paddock after rain.

Rule number one for survival in the woods is never to pick and eat anything unless I’m with someone else . Me being colorblind , I don’t trust AI 
or my phone 
for that! I picked some yesterday and tried to print , which failed this time , but I will master it! They look lovely

So fun! I especially love that funky orange one that looks like coral. It’s so cute! 
Thirding this! Very wise words. Mushrooms can be deadly. Luckily they’re safe to admire from afar (or via pictures shared online!) 
Went on a hike yesterday and found a treasure! I’m 95% sure this is a Chicken of the Woods mushroom, an edible mushroom that, funny enough, tastes similar to chicken. It even looks like chicken when it’s shredded and cooked.
We didn’t take any (95% sure isn’t sure enough) but it was fun to see.

Sliced and sauteed in butter With a little bit of salt and pepper. Served on toast is just perfect, you just get natural flavor. By the way these are the only types of mushrooms I pick in the wild because I do not know or am able to identify any other ones. These grow in a lot of places where I live, especially after the rain.
I’ve always wanted to go and do one of those Foraging Courses just to learn a bit more, but I’m not in the best place for foraging for different types of mushrooms to start with. I think you need to be in a more Tropical Rainforest type climate. Mine is dry and arid.

The orange/orange-y color is one of its key giveaways, but there are some other traits that can help someone spot this mushroom! I have a mushroom book I trust (Mushrooms of the Northeast by Teresa Marrone and Walt Sturgeon) that has some more info about where to find it and how to identify it:

That information is truly astounding. I believe I will acquire that book. It would serve as a valuable reference to have with me when I’m in the woods, aiding me in identifying mushrooms.Well, I’ll still use my phone because I’m color blind, or I’ll have someone else with me look at them before I go popping wild mushrooms. It’s my pleasure! The book is small (probably by design - it’s meant to be brought along on hikes) so it doesn’t have all the mushrooms one might encounter, but it has some of the most common ones for the Northeast. I like that it has pictures and, my favorite, that it talks about how to tell a mushroom apart from some common look-alikes. I find those sections to be very helpful.
