Hello @Sarexa, my plants have to grow in-spite of me. Lol.
This biggest thing most people do is over water. If I water once a week the plants are lucky.
For orchids I only put two ice cubes in. The trick is not just to keep them alive but to get them to flower again. My friend that grows orchids says they are much harder than people think.
I grow Spider plants- great for the air and hard to kill.
I also have a âgold fishâ plant. That flowers with an orange flower. That is pretty easy too. It doesnât always flower it has flowering periods.
I also have a jade plant and Christmas cactus, peace lily (those two flower), rosemary (pretty flowers) and an aloe Vera plant.
The peace lily is in the bathroom as it likes moisture and I do have to water that one weekly. ( I recently learned that when I ignored it for a few weeksâŠ)
The others I ignore for 2-3 weeks and they do better for it.
For outside, I buy annuals as they will bloom all summer- petunias, portulaca, snap dragons, marigolds, some others I canât think of, pretty much any annual. If those are in pots you have to water those daily.
Dragon wing begonias are brilliant- they are heat and drought resistant.
Perennials have flowering periods so buy ones that have different flowering times. Hostas are have neat flowers that add height. Lilies are hard to kill but they take over. I found my daffodils and hyacinths survived the squirrels better than the tulips. I basically tell my perennials that they have have to survive without my help (except initial planting- then I ensure they get water until they take root, after that they are on their own.) they do well enough that I have a pretty garden. With perennials you can also get plants with colourful leaves, shapes and heights. They donât have flowers but they are pretty.
Of any of the above the easiest to kill were the annuals in pots by not watering them daily. The rest die from over water. And/or not enough or too much sun. For partial shade plants donât put in direct sunlight.
I hope this gives you some ideas on plants.
