We had a call from a realtor, sales person, actually Rich did. He wanted to buy our house.
Rich put him off for a few weeks but finally set a date to show the house. In the meantime, I got a call from Lauren the sales person at the facility I want us to move into, set up a meeting with her. She and I decided which 2 bedroom apt. I wanted. theyāll pull up carpets and put down vinal floors. Rich trips so easily on carpet.
The appartments donāt have ranges, but sheās arranged for a small stove in the kitchen. Yay ME! I like to bake.
We sat down and talked $$$$. It isnāt cheap, but it isnāt anymore expensive than running a house. Probably less. We just pay rent, everything else is supplied, including meals.
Got home, Ethan called (the buyer) and agreed to all our terms, I didnāt get what I wanted but it was enough.
We close sept 30 but can move in the 18th. Sooooooooooooo excited!
That sounds amazing! I know you had said you were both retired, is it a senior living center, or something like that? Are meals served in a cafeteria area, or can you dine in your apartment?
Just interested because Eric and I are up there in age too. We have a house now, but wonder if it might be wiser, as we get older, to move into an apartment complex for seniors.
Wishing you a positive and relaxing move! I hope you both like your new home!
It is worth looking into. Without a yard or repairs to take care of by yourselves, it is a lot less work. Finding a good place is the trick, right now. Take your time. Most people consider apartments to be short term living ideas, but it is smarter to walk in with the attitude of wanting to stay the rest of your life and keep the option to move in your back pocket just in case.
Wow. That sounds so awesome for you! I mean, meals and not having to carry the regular groceries, just what little you want for baking and drinks? No shoveling sidewalks in the winter, mowing grass, or upkeep! Very nice! I wish you all the luck with your move! I hope it goes smoothly and you donāt lose anything!
Iām excited for you too, @Garnet - it sounds like a positive opportunity! Wishing you and Rich all the best with the move and settling into your new home
Weāre moving to an adult independent community. That means that life will go on as usual but I donāt have to do housework or cooking.
On the plus side they serve you meals in a formal dining room. Yay no dishes. You choose from a menu, what you want to eat. Since weāre staying in Bradenton, we donāt have to change doctors. If I have needs, walmart will deliver to our door. They have a mail area.
They have entertainment, games, a small library and a quiet place to read. You can join in or stay home.
The apt is actually bigger than our house was. 2 bedrooms with baths attached. A functional kitchen with refrigerator, stove. I like to make cookies, they have snacks all over, cookies, ice cream and popcorn. Weāll remain mobel, keep the truck and theyāll give us our own parking spot. TV and internet free.
On the negative side the halls are long, so Iāll have to put my electric w/c to use and walk when I can. Iām finding a home for our cats. I canāt continue to take care of them.
Itās like being independent with lots of people to help us if we need it.
Fantastic. This sounds exactly like where my Mom is living, and itās also called independent living. Because all the residents, despite getting so many services, are completely independent!
How wonderful that you had a small stove arranged for you. My Mom wasnāt so lucky and she deeply missed baking. (She swears her carrot cake is THE best.) We bought her a very nice countertop convection oven so she can bake, and sheās happy with it but it takes up counter space, of course.
Congratulations again! I wish you and Rich many happy years there together.
That sounds wonderful! Eric and I may need something like that eventually. But we love our home, I love our garden so weāre not ready just yet. Maybe in another 10 years or so.
But my dad is 96 and still lives at home, still plays golf at least twice a week, still takes himself out driving in the countryside and does all his own cooking. So I have good genes and may remain independent for a long time to come.
