Iโ€™m in the middle of reading [The Little Book of Mushrooms](https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-little-book-of-mushrooms-alex-dorr/1141548958?ean=9781507219591) by Alex Dorr and [The Crystal Witch](https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-crystal-witch-leanna-greenaway/1131146046?ean=9781454934684) by Shawn Robbins and Leanna Greenway ๐Ÿ’— ๐Ÿ„ ๐ŸŒฟ Iโ€™m halfway through the mushroom book but less than halfway in the other. Both are excellent reads and I adore the art and pictures in both of them. My sweetheart gifted me both books so theyโ€™re special to me x3 ---

My thoughts on **The Little Book of Mushrooms** so far: I like the simple, clean format the author used on the pages. The foreword is worth reading too since the author explains what mushrooms are, how they grow, and what each part of a mushroom is. He also explains common mycology terms that the reader will see throughout the book, which I appreciate. For the entries on the mushrooms, thereโ€™s a painted illustration on the left side, with information on it on the opposite page. Some entries have more than one page. I researched which shrooms are native in my state and I was delighted to see that the author covered most of them! My stateโ€™s native edible mushrooms are: ๐Ÿ„ ๐ŸŒฟ **Black Trumpets** (_Craterellus cornucopiodes_) ๐Ÿ„ ๐ŸŒฟ **Chanterelle** (_Cantharellus_) ๐Ÿ„ ๐ŸŒฟ **Dryadโ€™s Saddle** (_Cerioporus squamosus_) - Also used for papermaking. ๐Ÿ„๐ŸŒฟ **Giant Puffball** (_Langermannia gigantea_) ๐Ÿ„๐ŸŒฟ **Maitake** (_Grifola frondosa_) - Also known as **Hen-of-The-Woods**. Not to be confused with **Chicken of The Woods**! ๐Ÿ„ ๐ŸŒฟ **Morel** (_Morchella esculenta_) ๐Ÿ„ ๐ŸŒฟ **Shaggy Mane** (_Coprinus comatus_) - Also used for mycoremediation and nematicide. My stateโ€™s native non-edible (and deadly!!!) mushrooms are: ๐Ÿ„โ˜  **Destroying Angel** (_Amanita virosa/Amanita bisporigera/Amanita ocreata_) ๐Ÿ„โ˜  **Deadly Galerina** (_Galerina marginata_) - Also known as **Funeral Bell** , **Deadly Skullcap** , and **Autumn Skullcap**. ๐Ÿ„โ˜  **Death Cap** (_Amanita phalloides_) ๐Ÿ„โ˜  **False Morel** (_Gyromitra esculenta_) ๐Ÿ„โ˜  **Foolโ€™s Funnel** (_Clitocybe rivulosa_) - Also known as the **False Champignon**. ๐Ÿ„โ˜  **Poison Paxillus** (_Paxillus involutus_) - Also known as the **Brown Roll-rim** , and **Common Roll-rim**. ๐Ÿ„โ˜  **Yellow Stainer** (_Agaricus xanthodermus_) - Also known as the **Yellow-staining Agaricus** , and **Yellow-staining Mushroom**. I am definitely adding the info of all of these to my herbal grimoire! ---
