Imbalanced chakras could be one reason why your spells weren’t working as expected - and Mystique has given you some great advice about chakra work and balancing! 
There could also be another underlying cause getting in the way. Sometimes spells don’t go as expected, and it becomes a bit of a detective game to figure out why. If you’re digging in to examine it, here are a few more things you might consider about the spellwork:
