As some in the US have likely heard, there’s a winter storm pummeling the Midwest and making its way east, plunging temperatures into the single digits and wind chills below zero. I’m not worried about it being cold; what’s worrying me is the high winds, which could knock the power out. I have a kerosene heater, plenty of candles and warm blankets in the event the power does go out. But I’m prepared to leave and go to a warming center if it starts to get really cold and the power isn’t estimated to be back on for some time. I turned the heat up a bit in my apartment, just in case.
I’ve been praying to the dragons for everyone to stay warm and to provide some cover for the power lines from the wind.
But I’m thinking of everyone in the coven who will be in the pathway of the storm. Even Florida is supposed to get hit with freezing temperatures. Orlando will have a high of 48 on Christmas Day and Miami will only be 56.
Stay safe and warm and off the roads unless it’s an absolute necessity!
On my way to my eye appointment this morning, the radio station said this could be the storm of a generation. I am praying everyone will stay warm and safe! I’m not gonna lie though… I would not be sad if there was a little bit of snow hanging out in Atlanta for Christmas. I’m not counting on it, but I am like a four year old when it comes to snow… ever the optimist, so full of hope!
Seriously though… everyone stay safe! Sending out some extra love for all the first responders who have no choice but to be out and about!
I didn’t know this storm had a name but I’ve had my eye on it for a few days. It’s affecting some of my friends up in Canada that are seeing really, really low temperatures. It’s supposed to be a low of 30F Saturday night, a really low temperature for us here in West-Central Florida.
I’ll keep you and everyone else in my prayers for warmth and hope
It’s never any fun to be without heat, especially when the temperatures are going to be that low with a very powerful wind.
I’m glad you’ll have warming centers open to you and others that need it – and if anyone in the coven needs to hear this, please! Go to a warming center if you have to. There’s no shame in needing help and I’d rather you be warm and cozy than freezing at home.
I’m sitting in the middle of it, and I’ve got about 2 hours more of driving tonight directly into it. I’ve been casting protection spells for days and I’m an experienced winter driver, but I need to get from Indianapolis to the western boarder of Indiana where our AirBnb has a generator that should get us through three worst of the storm and the cold tomorrow. Please send protection energy our way!
I hope everyone stays warm and safe. Tomorrow we are going to go from a high of 51 to a low of 7, wind chill possible of -5 F. Make sure you have gas for generators or know where local warming stations are if needed.
Oh, I am so hoping the weather people are overestimating this storm. If not I have plenty of blankets and bread and peanut butter. LOL! I can huddle for warmth and eat peanut butter and jelly. There is a warming center being opened if I have to but I’d rather huddle at home.
What kills me is it’s supposed to be near 60 on New Year’s Eve for me! Going from one extreme to the other! January is looking like a month for above average temperatures (highs in the upper 40’s and lower’s 50’s).
You’ve got all the protection from me!
I’m so happy to hear that you made it safely!
Glad to hear that!
Adding in my thoughts and prayers as well to all those in/in the path of the storm!
Here on the eastern coast of the US we are currently getting knocked around by the crazy winds, but the rain isn’t so bad and the temperature is still decent here for now- I’m seeing some wild videos and pictures on the news in other places though!
May everyone stay safe, well, and warm!
Well, it’s a balmy 8 degrees with a wind chill of -12!
My kitties were really laying against me, like they were trying to fuse with me or something.
Everything is shut down, right now. The snow is starting to end though, thank the Goddess. We’ve only gotten maybe just under an inch. There’s ice and snow on my windows. The winds have occasionally been blowing really hard, but other than the, they’ve been much calmer that I thought they would be. I’m at a somewhat high elevation and it sounds like the wind is blowing harder in the lower parts. We’re under a wind advisory until tomorrow morning, then it’s supposed to die down and just be super cold when it starts to slowly warm up on Monday/Tuesday.
Time for a day of hot coffee
Yikes- that is chilly! Enjoy your coffee and I hope you and your kitties keep staying warm! May the winds quiet down for you soon and that the warmth returns asap!
Awwwwww @Kasandra u are too sweet to think about all of us too. Here where i live in NC its supposed to get down to 9 degrees tonight, i know where @Artemisia lives its gonna be around 10 degrees or so. And tomorrow its only to be around 15 degrees.
We’ve got a wood stove and lots of firewood. Plus a big ass generator, for the fridge and stuff.
Stay safe and warm Kas, if u lived cloer u could always come stay with me in my guest room of it got too bad instead of a warming shelter. Kat that invite goes for u too. If it gets too bad or u lose power just let me know. I wont let anyone freeze or starve. And we have plenty of food.
We lost power here before 5 am but thankfully have a generator. Can at least cook on the gas stove and have heat downstairs. Winds are high with 20-50 mph gusts. It’s 27 now but it’s falling fast. It should be single digits overnight. I didn’t run today which if I’m being honest is rare for me. I run in some pretty stupid weather.
Stay safe and warm everyone
@Artemisia well if u ever feel the need to run and cant i have a treadmill. Lol
It was 47 here around 6 and is now 29 at about 11. And we are having 40 mph sustained winds.
Aww, thanks! Too bad we’re two states away.
@Artemisia Yikes. At least you have a generator to keep you warm. Hopefully, your power comes back on soon.
It’s times like this that I’m blessed to be working at home now. I used to work at Tim Hortons (for American’s, think Canadian Dunkin Donuts, lol) and would curse this. Cuz I don’t drive and would have to bus it or cab.
So far right now it’s gusty and COLD (feels like -23 Celsius). Schools were closed yesterday and I see that some roads around us are closed.
I’m staying in, keeping busy. My daughter is helping with the pups. So far so good.
The winds have finally died down this morning. Thank the Goddess the power never went out. Not too many people did actually and those that did had their power restored quickly. It’s still very cold here. 1 with a wind chill of -19, but the wind chill advisory is supposed to be lifted by noon today.
I usually go over to my parents for Christmas Eve, but I might have to wait until tomorrow when it’s supposed to warm up to 20.
