Weekly Challenge (Catch Up) - Moon Deities of Ancient Egypt

Reading that source further, it appears that the focus of the diagram is on midsagittal area of the brain, bascially what you would see if it was cut in half from top to bottom. The areas labelled do some processing of the senses before it goes to the appropriate lobe for interpretation. Its a complicated piece of machinery

Ohh, I see! That’s really cool. :star_struck: Thanks for explaining that. :black_heart:

Alright, I should get back to learning then!

Or should I say, ā€œactually start in earnest.ā€

This is a FANTASTIC post! Thank you for posting it.
I always have to remind myself that the Eye of Horus (Protection) is the Left eye and the Eye of Ra (Power) is the Right.

It makes sense to me, too! If I had all of these Gods and spirits and then met a group of people that had Gods and spirits similar to mine, it would only make logical sense to say they are the same, just known under different names. Well, that’s how I see it, anyway  It’s something I even struggle with today - the concept of hard polytheism versus soft polytheism… :joy: is every God an individual? Or is it one God with many faces? Or several Gods with many faces? I will never know :face_exhaling:

I have that same book! I used to it to build up phrases i use in rituals:

Dua Ausir neb Abdjhu (praise Osiris, lord of Abydos)
Dua Auset nebet heka (praise Isis, mistress of magic).

I actually really enjoyed working through it and learning about determinatives i.e hieroglyphs that tell you if it is a male, female, deity, place etc. I made this video for the polyglot challenge:

:astonished: ! The nostalgia. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Ancient Egypt. And I called all the cities by their old names.

There was this one book I had that I had to constantly tape back together because I read it so much that it fell apart.

That was really informative and helpful! Thanks. :black_heart:

I have found that now i refer to the deities using their Egyptian names (Asar, Auset, Heru) rather than the more common names that the Greeks gave them (Osiris, Isis, Horus) in my personal practice. Although I tend to use the latter when posting on here.

This was absolutely delightful and heartfelt. Thank you for the respect you have shown to these deities!! Thoth is one I call upon almost daily.

@audra Thoth is not a deity that I actively work with but I do feel drawn to him. There is something about him that I particularly like. Not sure what it is though.

I really enjoy working with Thoth. I have alwaus been a knowledge seeker, spening many years on Dean’s list at university. I ask him to help me understand and seek answers, and just seeking guidance throughout and difficult day or situation. I’m in Healthcare where amswers are sought by my patients and myself. I’ve only started working with him recently, but so far, it has been a rewarding experience.

@audra I’m a knowledge seeker too. I love learning but love sharing it with others too. I’m a school teacher so perhaps this is the link to him that experience at times?

@Cosmic_Curiosity I prepare my space and burn some Egyptian musk or clove incense. I have a feather I use to represent a scribe and for the time being I have an ibis that I borrow from my son’s Bluey toy to represent Thoth. I have cleansed and placed my intention into each of them. I say a prayer to Thoth that I found here in our coven. Then I focus my intention and ask him for guidance and knowledge to face the day, situation, challenge, etc. At the end of the day if there has been a specific challenge that has been resolved i will repeat the process and burn a vanilla candle infused with rose and thank him for his assistance and guidance. It’s still a work in progress but that’s what i do. Hope this helps. And thanks for asking!

@Cosmic_Curiosity I have a specific case that has really been a challenge. Im thinking about writing it on a parchment and incorporating it into my ritual some how. I also speak to him frequently throughout my day.

That sounds absolutely beautiful. It is very similar to what i do with the Triad of Abydos (Isis, Osiris and Horus). I would like to connect with Thoth but dont want the others to feel ā€œput outā€ and I dont eant to neglect my connection with them. I keep dreaming of Bast and cats just now and I think this may be a sign too!

Thank you @Cosmic_Curiosity ! It is so funny you mention Bast! She is my goddess as well!!! Maybe make an offering to the triad, letting them know your intensions, reassuring them that they won’t be neglected and see what type of response you receive from them. I’m still a baby witch so I don’t know if that would work but it’s an idea. If you try it, please let me know how it works. I honestly don’t think they would be offended because all of the gods of Egypt were called upon at different times. They each have a different calling and can’t answer all of anyone’s prayers. Just my thoughts.

I had a strange experience during a meditation the other day. I was standing in a desert and a beatifil woman was standing She said she was Bast. She didnt have a cat face our anything. She said " i come to you through her with silver hair".

This is my silver haired cat, Luna who has been giving me lots of attention recently. I wonder if that is what she meant?
