:stonehenge: Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - Sacred Places, Sacred Spaces

Exploring the concept of Sacred Spaces has me all in my head, not gonna lie. When we think of Sacred Spaces, we often picture large temples, vast spaces, and ancient sites. If you’re in the United States (and aren’t well-traveled) it is common to picture places outside the country because we aren’t taught about the different temples and sacred sites in our own country. Now, this is probably because our country is so huge and, in the grand scheme of things, still a “baby country” – the history of colonization probably doesn’t help the fact… but I digress…

Anyway, I might explore some different sacred sites in the United States in a completely separate post if I can find the brain space. For this challenge, I wanted to set up my desk altar since I have a new-to-me desk.

I wanted this space to be welcoming, protective, and all-encompassing without being massive or cluttered. This space needs to be mentally relaxing, emotionally comforting, inspiring, and productive. After all, I do so many different things at my desk from working, playing games, and studying.

I decided to take out a few different tools and place them on my desk. I also created a little box based on a conversation I had with Devenne in Energy vampirism for good.

I wanted to make sure I had a connection to the three realms - Land, Sea, and Sky. With these, I do – the hag stone for land, the jar of water for sea, and the bell for sky. Water also connects to intuition and emotion, bringing me the stability I’m seeking in those aspects of my life. The snake candle holder is a symbol of protection and transformation. The hag stone is a connection to Earth as well as the Otherworld.

Then, in the little box (that I will hopefully paint sometime this weekend) I have a piece of mahogany obsidian and clear quartz. I haven’t announced it in the forum yet (but if you’ve watched my latest videos on YouTube, you’ll already know this) but I am going back to school in the Fall to finally get my nursing license. It’s going to be a ridiculously difficult process with being a mom, working full time, and going to clinicals in 2025/26. So, this little box is going to be my helper! Any time I’m feeling down, stressed out, overwhelmed, etc. I will open the box, speak my mind (even if it’s negative!), and close the box. The mahogany obsidian is there to be a buffer against the stressful energy while the clear quartz will then act as a sponge. Then I can later utilize that quartz during tests, study sessions, or something similar to help me when I need it.

Sacred space. Traditional sacred spaces would be in nature I suppose, for my tradition, but I wanted to think on my sacred space.

For me, it’s my head and my heart, sometimes these two are in conflict but both are where Loki guides me (he’s given up on my ears, I don’t listen ).

It’s in my thoughts that my prayers and thanks are formed, it’s normally in my mind how I talk to Loki. And it’s my mind where he replies through thoughts and memories.

It’s in my heart that he helps me feel, whether it be joyful or fearful or hesitant or bold, but the feelings are another space he uses.

As my god, if these are the places he chooses to guide me, then they must be sacred. This gave me pause , perhaps I should be more careful what I feed my mind, and how I care for my heart.

This is a thoughtful challenge and has given me something to ponder. :green_heart:

I get it. I went back to study when I was older and my kids were 4&6. I had to work full time and study for 4 years evenings and weekends and make sure I paid attention to my kids so they didn’t feel abandoned. I also have adhd and can’t take meds for it due to other medical conditions. I hated studying for exams :face_vomiting:

You can do this @MeganB !!! You will make an amazing nurse!

The forest behind my house is a sacred space. It has a liminal space, it has a healing space/tree and just a general sense of peace comes over me. There is a spot for shadow work and a spot for sun work. I get shivers.

I also like the sacred space that is created when I cast a circle. Just a stillness and a sense of more.

My sacred space focused on was my inner temple and using my inner temple map/spread to see what i needed to learn inside my temple from the guides within. I used my intuition to choice decks to create the path using the map of my inner temple and the xards to guide me to the location in the inner temple that i needed to be snd what messages and meditations i needed to focus on
The map of my inner temple

The lenormand deck which i used the position of the woman / lady card which in lenormand would represent me to help me see where i needed to travel to which ended up bring the Mountain location ( day) or as i also had allocated major arcana cards to each location 3.lady/express ( depending on deck use)

Used kipper to see if the woman or lady came up again incase aldo needed to travel else where in the inner temple but she didnt show. The man did but in a different location. It was the privileged lady that turned up in my location on the mountain which indicated possibly a friend or sister or other sort of person

I did the druid animal deck to see if i net any animsl guides and the ram turned up on the kountain in my location which did seem fitting as you might find rams in the mountains

And just to round off the different divination card systems i wanted also a tarot deck so did the wildeood one as it just felt right and 8 of stones ( pentacles ) was at my location a man in a cave working on carving stones which again seemed fitting fir the location and i could see a posdible link and message forming with the cards that fell along that location.

To further look at the trip into theinner temple i also looked at the trail id of gone to get to the mountain position ( day ) going from the 0 - fool position at the door to the inner temple to the 3- lady/ empress ( depend on deck use)

Even just looking at the lenormand path
0- moon
1- key
2- house
3- lady

I can look at how these give a message as well as the other cards that the other decks shiwed for these positions .

(Will edit this with pics of my altar tomorrow)
My sacred space is my bedroom, where I keep my altar. It’s the safest room in the house to me. It feels more intimate to me to have my altar where I rest my head, if it makes sense! I also feel connected to nature when I go for my daily walks along the river that’s close to where I live (it’s just a small walk away from it). I like to meditate there too. The river is beautiful. More so when the cherry trees are in bloom! And the birds are always chirping whenever I go there.

Oh can’t wait to share in this challenge. For me it is my own self-made sacred space, mainly because it is the sole place that i have just to myself and my deities and where i can not just practice my craft, but meditate and even just vent there. Will be adding pics soon x

Within 5 min of our old house there is a rock circle/maze that many have come to see as a sacred place. Since moving though with all the chaos that has happened I’m not sure of any sacred places. I’m sure there are! We are living in an area with heavy first nations influence, I just havnt found them yet. So my sacred space right now is wherever I set up my altar. I’m not in a position to be able to have a permanent altar at the moment unfortunately.

Two of my favorite sacred spaces. I love to take my candles and other supplies needed for spell work out to this stump and work or meditate in nature.

My second place is the fire pit. I love to create a fire and meditate with Loki here. It’s also a great place to just relax and unwind.

Weekly Witchy Challenge for Amethyst

I thought I’d share what has become a local sacred place for me, and that’s Grandview.

It has beautiful overlooks, it might take a bit of a walk but if you are able they are well worth it so see the New River Gorge from above. Especially in the fall when the leaves are turning! Gorgeous!

They also have hiking trails and picnic areas and other things expected with a park, and then there’s caves to explore! Really fun when you’re a kid!

Then there are the rhododendron. The purple ones bloom in mid-May so it was always fun to drive up there for Mother’s Day and see all the giant purple blossoms! You could walk or drive though, so we always drove. It was hot and there were usually bees about. So yeah, we stayed in the car!

Grandview also has an Outdoor theater. Theater West Virginia uses it nearly every year. They show the Hatfields and McCoys, which I bet you can guess what’s that is about. Honey in the Rock, which is about the founding of WV, and another play. This year it’s Footloose, but I’ve seen Annie, Annie Get Your Gun, Grease, and a few other plays.

My first though was Dracula. I was going in the fourth grade so I was like 10 or so. My Mom brought me and a friend along with two of her friends to see it. At one point in the play, Dracula disappears from the stage and a bat flies over the sitting crowd on a wire! Right over us!

Well, Mom had two ten year olds clutching to her in fright on one side, and two sixty-year olds on the other! It was funny after we got over the jump scare!

When my Mom passed in 2016, her only wish besides dying in her own bed was to be cremated and her ashes spread at Grandview. I didn’t have a car but I managed to do it with help from a friend.

I haven’t been there since, it’s a long drive from where I live now and with no car it’s just not a thing I can ask. But I miss going there, I miss spending time with my Mom there. I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

So yeah, Grandview National Park has become a Sacred Space to me. I hope that when I pass I have a good friend who will spread my ashes there as well. We’ll see.

Challenge Entry #2 - Sacred Places, Sacred Spaces

The other place that I consider sacred is my office/craft room. It’s my multi-use room but it works well for me.

Plus by doing this challenge and needing to take photos, it incentivized me to clean off my desk!
