Prayer to Artemis - Hecate - Moon Goddess of the underworld
Queen of the forests who live in the mountains
and in the mountains they worship the deserts
only you, turn the ominous
points of omens for the better.
Great you goddess in the woods
and the sacred grove, brilliant ornament
of the night, shining star, yours
turning lights up the whole world;
three-faced Hekate, come, help me
in all that I strive to achieve, do
softer to wear
of Hippolytus the proud, the words
which I will politely tell him to listen to.
They sweetened his sweet heart;
teach him love and to endure
the flames that love kindles.
His mind gathered; to the law
of Aphrodite may the merciless turn,
the wild and untamed. In this
put your strength and may
proceed with a clean face
and your bright horns drive away
the clouds; in the nightly ether
to drive your car and not
of Thessaly may the magic be able
to be pulled down, not glory
shepherd none of to receive.
Come where I call you; my prayers
in a good mood, knock to listen.

Its oddly not Samhain for us is southern hemisphere but the Halloween season definatly around. Sometimes i find trying to remember the opposite season north snd south i hsve to look it up but i decided that cause its one of the sabbats that the celebration is at the time of year here as it is in north ( though our sabbat or season is different) i thought id do a spread for this week that covers the sabbat but also halloween. I screen shot and decorated it for the sppoky seasom to share. I kept it simple for my overloaded brain but yeah so i did the week ahead spread

I know we arent in autumn here but i decided limited stickers on my phone to decorate and halloween in north now is autumn id just through in autumn leaves to decorate lol i couldnt find a pumpkim. Oh well ā€¦i did not alot of water cards and sword cardsā€¦and early journey in major arcana coming up this week. Emotionsl week to come ? Hmm jopefully good emotional but i already know what the 8 of swords card is about lol so at least i have a heads up on the energy for that day so better prepared that day for what ever comes

I wasnā€™t sure what to do for this challenge, honestly. I pulled out a book I havenā€™t read yet, Do I Have To Wear Black? by Mortellus. Itā€™s not necessarily spooky, but ā€œSpooky Seasonā€ deals a lot with death and transformation so I felt that this worked well.

I want to share this ritual I found in the book for creating a piece of mourning jewelry using knot magic.

Knot Magic Mourning Jewelry

Sometimes when grieving an incredible loss, actions help us process. The best rituals are daily actions, honed over time, and this magic is no different. Here, we consecrate a length of cord for us in a magical necklace (or bracelet, as best suits your needs) to wear during the time of mourning, filling it with intent that we can then use for our magic. This is particularly useful for grieving the loss of the young, and when doing so, you may choose to focus your acts of kindness on children.

Youā€™ll need:
Red bakerā€™s thread, a large spool

Purpose: Transforming grief into acts of good.

Location: A private location of your choosing. This rite could be held at any time after the death.

Additionally: Have on hand a spool of red cotton string. What I found for this work was a spool of red 8-ply, 2 millimiter cotton bakerā€™s thread which had 256 feet (this cost me very little), and I consecrated the entire spool at once.

Prepare the ritual space as is appropriate for your practice.

Bereaved: I charge this cord in service to (name of deceased) under the watchful eyes of the elements. By breathless cries, by the flame of remembrance, by tears, by the earth that enshrouds you ā€“ I call upon the primal current within me now, no force greater than my love for you. I consecrate this tool that my pain be turned to kindness, this my oath and bond.

Following this ritual, take a length of this cord to wear as a necklace or bracelet, tying a knot in it for every day that you mourn your deceased loved one, adding to its magical weight each time. Each time a knot is tied, say:

Bereaved: One knot, my love for you.

When opportunities present themselves, perform acts of kindness for others in the memory of your loved one. Whenever you do so, untie a single knot, sending the magic within it to the spirit of your deceased loved one. Each time a knot is undone, say:

Bereaved: One knot undone, this love I send.

If there comes a time that you need more thread, simply tie a new length to the end from your spool. Should you feel that you are done carrying your mourning knots, you may burn them and spread the ashes where your loved one is interred.

I like this mourning jewelry because itā€™s not just about making knots in grief. Itā€™s about making knots with the energy of your grief and then untying those knots as you do something good with that energy. It is very transformative and can help empower someone through their grief.

Yet again, I feel like for this weekā€™s challenge, Iā€™m taking the easy way out and continuing to do research on and reflecting on topics related to my personal Craft. I feel like this transition from summer to fall has me starting to shift inward already. Iā€™ve been reflecting on the purpose of my craft, and how what I read about relates to my Craft.

Iā€™ve been collecting witchy artwork to sprinkle throughout my BoS/grimoire because Iā€™m not artistic, but I like having pretty things to look at  lol

Iā€™ve been working on digitizing my BoS/grimoire so that I can have a typed version of what I write so that I can print it out and be able to easily read it, but still have the images of the handwritten things so that I can potentially print those out as well so that the ink doesnā€™t smear, and if it does, it can be easily replaced. Iā€™ll add those pictures in where they feel appropriate and where they spark joy when I see them in the pages of my grimoire.

In terms of seasonally-appropriate rituals, Iā€™ve been working on deciding which family recipes I want to cook to honor my ancestors and loved ones who have passed on.

In the coming days, I plan on also trying to incorporate incense into my practice as well. Iā€™ve never really been too big on incense because it hasnā€™t really ever felt like it had any effect on my practice, so I just didnā€™t use it because I figured that if I wasnā€™t feeling any effect, I might as well not be breathing any sort of smoke. (Lung cancer runs in my family, so I try to be careful with what kinds of chemicals and smoke Iā€™m breathing in.) However, I recently went to a book signing event for Coby Michaelā€™s new book, The Poison Path Grimoire, and as part of that event, he gave a talk about herbs and how they relate to Halloween and spirit work. The incenses he burned during the talk ACTUALLY made me feel something, so it inspired me to continue to try to work with them.

I decided to work on creating my bone-throwing or casting set. I had started a bit on it before but really needed to make some decisions on what to include and take out and firm up meanings for some of the items. I also decided to create 3 sets. A beginner or practice set of 3-5 pieces that I will practice with to become more adapt at reading the castings and continue to fine tune which items stay (or rather want to stay) and which do not. The intermediate set has 6-13 pieces to work on more nuanced and complicated castings. The full set is 26 pieces.

I expect to mostly use smaller combinations of items depending on what Iā€™m asking or who I am reading for.

All of my animal-derived items are ethically sourced (found in nature, from owl pellets or remnants from processing).

TW: Bones

I have a bones from chicken, coyote, raccoon, alligator, and emu, teeth from a cat, goat, shark, and deer, a claw from a porcupine, a tail from a rabbit, and the tip of a deer antler

Each item has a bit of a range of meanings depending on what it is next to. crosses over or where itā€™s located on the casting mat.

Iā€™ve done one reading with all the pieces just for fun and it does take time to analyze all the details and see how the things interact or donā€™t. Itā€™s a fun challenge to learn and Iā€™m looking forward to continuing to do readings with them.

Iā€™ve downloaded a few but havenā€™t clicked with any of them. Iā€™ve learned more from the YouTube videos that Megan had suggested in the Divination Tip thread. From there Iā€™ve found a few others that I liked as well. Seeing bones being cast and read makes more sense to me than reading about it - in terms of my learning (if that makes any sense? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

Plus itā€™s fun to pull out a handful of items from a bag and cast them across a cloth on the table. Feels primal and very mystical :bone:

I went to WA this weekend to a workshop about working with your ancestors.
I made an altar for Henri and lit candles for him. It felt good to make it. I do think that my shadow box is a portal to a different world because it rings busy energy and feels like a portalā€¦ so i think I am going to get rid of itā€¦ it made me not sleep last night
Sunday was lovely and there was a witches market and I got a cool new wolf :wolf: candle and a few new crystals.

I will be working with baba yaga on Samhain and my ancestors.

[Baba yaga, Andrew Langā€™s Red Fairy Book](https://
Here is a prayer I found for her:
Not all can survive this, but then you know that.

Make me over in your image, make me harder to kill.

I want to tell my granddaughters about the tests I passed, I want to teach them to accept the hard things life, that cruel bitch, hands us.

I may not be pretty, I may not be nice, but I will get through this.

Let me carry your fire, let me take your coals.

It would burn anyone else to cinders, but Iā€™m made of sterner stuff.

I am afraid, but thereā€™s more to this then that.

Iā€™ve started down this path and now thereā€™s no turning back.

Your white rider, your red rider and the black one too have all ridden past me, time passes, the world keeps spinning.

One foot in front of the otherā€¦

Trudging uphill on a mountain that never ends.

So here I am, ready to work.
Give me the tough chicken talons to rake the earth.

Ancient Mother, I love you despite yourself, because I understand the things that made you.

I am you as the maiden, before they knew to be scared.

If I have to yank my own teeth out to gain your iron, I will.

Because life isnā€™t easy and thatā€™s the point.

They think youā€™re terrifying, but I know the depth of your love.

In the darkest moment, thatā€™s the strength we need to get through it.

Your scrawny arms have the raw strength to maintain the death grip to hold on for dear life.

So do your worst, Iā€™m up for the task.

Help me help myself.

Grandmother, your curse is my blessing.
