(Trivia: I’m INFJ-T Advocate- not quite like @Sivonnah - as a profession, but definitely a helper)
What does MBTI stand for? Just did @georgia test. Thankyou Georgia, I got Advocate INFJ.
@Jeannie1 Thankyou. You’ll have a beautiful journey with Hecate and your gods.
I like this.
I had heard once that one trait of INFJs is their ability to use analagies to explain concepts. That was my first thought when I saw your challenge entry.
First off thank you for your kind words It always makes me smile
Personally I see the maiden stage as growing, learning ,exppericnes new things. Mother as care giver, nuturter, provider (even if it’s just you that you are taking care of and nourishing). My crone phase to me isn’t about being used up, irrelevant or old, but rather relaxing, being more confident, and using the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired over life. But enough about that
It’s difficult sometimes to not be hard on onselves. On one hand, it can help us figure out our mistakes and learn how to avoid them next time. In that respect it can motivate. On the other, it can be a negative force if we constantly punish ourselves with it and don’t let go.
It’s like meditation, or forcing yourself to fall asleep. Sometimes the harder you try to make it happen a certain way, the harder it is to make happen. Some things come easiest when you let go and let it flow
That’s the perfect adive, I think. It’s so easy to get over excited and then overwhelmed trying to learn and do it all!
Oh yes!!! I agree with this completely. I used to be great at writing in my journal when I was younger but have gotten away from it. You inspire me to try again!
I feel like this didn’t get answered yet, if it did, I missed it! Sorry if it was already covered.

I believe the biggest lesson I have learned and the advice I give is not to rush with magick.
There is no need to do and learn everything in one night, just let everything come with their own pace and do not get fixated on anything. Lead yourself calmly into this journey of self-discovery. You might surprise yourself on how many more things you can do or suit you better.
Now for the more tangible ones, and these are more a personal view
- Study, study, study. Do not jump into spells or whatever else before you understand the basics. What is magick, where it comes from, the different practices, the history behind it, the correspondences, etc do not blindly follow what you see in the internet.
- I know this will bite me in the a$$ because I did it , but, there is absolutely no need to have a deity from the get go. Yes, some witches do, for various reasons, but plz plz plz no reason to feel lacking or that you are doing something wrong if you do not have one. Learn about what you want, who you feel closer to, and then try to reach.
- No need for an altar. If your chosen practice does not require one, why feel obligated to have one? Keep all the tools you need in a box and when you want to do a ritual, get them out, do the ritual, put them back in. This is really good, especially if you are in the broom closet, or have curious pets. Also, it is ok to gather the altar materials and tools slowly or get something that expresses you better. As I started as a kitchen witch, I have a butter knife instead of an athame.
- However, if you honor a deity it is advised to have an altar/shrine for them permanently. Nothing lavish if you do not want to, just a symbolic place to show them your appreciation.
- Learn to ground yourself. Tools, tarrots, crystals and other bling-blings are nice, but they are not what magick is. It is an energy all around us and inside us, but if we do not learn how to handle it, it will slip away. So, grounding ourselves, mostly though meditation, it will let us be aware of us and our surrounding, keep our minds and hearts calm and ready to practice our craft better.
Great advice and wisdom!

My aunt had told me my whole life that I was a healer, and had powers I was unaware of. When I was younger, I’d just shake my head and laugh. It wasnt until I got older, and a really close friend of mine had gotten diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma, that I really realized what she was talking about. I would walk in his house and be able to tell immediately if he wasnt feeling good. I didn’t understand at the time what was going on, but one day I walked in and knew he was bad off. I go in his room and find him in the adjacent bathroom slumped over the toilet l, throwing his guts up. I got him a wet rag and sat down beside him rubbing his back. I told him “I wish I could take your pain away, at least for a day.” While I was sitting there rubbing his back, thinking how much I would rather be in the pain he was feeling right then, and how bad I wanted him to have a normal feeling day, something began happeneing. I began feeling weak and groggy. But he began feeling better and stopped throwing up. My aunts words came flooding back to me and in that moment knew what she had been telling me, basically my whole life, was true. Since then I listen when she speaks and never laugh or dismiss what she says. My point of telling this story is that sometimes other people know us and our capabilities better than we know ourselves. When someone tells you something about yourself, especially if u dont think it to be true, do some soul searching and you just might find some truth to their words.
Blessed be,
Carol
CHALLENGE ENTRY
The most valuable thing I’ve learned is that it is ok if you don’t cast a spell every day or even every month. It’s ok if you miss a sabbat or esbat or if you just choose not to celebrate one for whatever reason. It’s ok if you miss a full moon, or a new moon, or any other phase. There will be another one in 30 days or less. It is ok if life gets in the way of your practice and workings. You are no less a witch.
If I could go back and tell myself one thing about magick, it would be this: embrace who you are even if that isn’t easy. Your family, friends and co-workers may not understand, but that’s ok. Or they could surprise you and totally understand. Or if you fear reprisals, living in the broom closet is perfectly ok. Your magick and who you are is between you and the Universe.
Something I would like every witch out there to know: You may be a solitary witch and enjoy your solitary practice. But if you are ever lucky enough to find a coven or group that just fits you, don’t wait, join and dive in. You may not be active every day. But just knowing they are there if you need them is invaluable. And they can open up your world to parts of magick you didn’t even know existed.
My Challenge Entry
In the past four years with Spells8, I have learned so much.
I believe that as you are learning, practice, practice & practice some more. As we practice we get more comfortable with our practice of becoming a Witch in the Wiccan Way.
I am still learning Tarot Cards and Oracle Cards but I have learned that I do prefer the Tarot Cards a little better.
I try to incorporate things that I already have, like crystals, herbs, a wand, and candles. I love books and try to read books about witchcraft of how things work. I am still working through Spells8 lessons and the homework helps you to try and do these things and to cast a spell. When I do a spell of my own, I write it down and look at it over and over and make corrections as needed if I should add certain crystals, what color candle should I use, and if I’m, really not sure I know I can use a white candle.
From all the things that I have learned with Spells8 and everyone here is important to go at your own pace, don’t push yourself if you’re not confident in yourself. Read about the spell that you are trying to do, so you have all the elements of what is required to do the spell you want. And to make a strong effort to do something witchy even if it is saying the Daily Blessing every morning while you sip on your coffee ( for me it will be Tea, since I quit coffee, since coffee is not good for my kidneys). Practice self-love for yourself, I did not do that in the beginning and now I do it as much as I can.
Don’t worry about things, remember that we all make mistakes since we are all human, and no one is perfect. So I use everything I can that is around me and love having live plants around me, they remind me of nature and our earth.
One thing I do first is burn some sage in the area that I am going to do a spell and after that, I ask a deitie to help me with a protection circle.
So believe in yourself
Have confidence in yourself
Read about the spell you want to do
Ask the deities to help you with your spell
Use candles and crystals to help bring your spell boost
Use a Sigil if you can or create your own sigil.
These are the things that I have found most valuable while I’ve been learning!
these are some of the things that I’d like all witches out there to know!
And Remember that we are all learning and we continue to learn as we go one, year after year.
Blessed Be Witches
