Wicca A Year and A Day and Big Blue

Hi there!

I just joined yesterday! Thank you again for having me :hugs::mage::purple_heart::double_exclamation_mark:

I am a newly practicing Wiccan. Cast my first Spell on the first of this year, but started reading books last August.

I was wondering if any of you lovely Witches have completed the Course Books Wicca A Year and A Day or Raymond Buckland’s Big Blue?

I bought both of them!

I can’t wait to start them! I’m SO EXCITED!

Ive had each of them for a few months now.

I was waiting until I felt ready to start one of them, but TODAY is the day to start the Wicca A Year and A Day study course book! I feel it!

Is it silly that I want to wait to self-initiate until after I complete the study course book :winking_face_with_tongue::joy:? I want to learn as much as I can.

Thanks for reading and listening to me no one else does :winking_face_with_tongue::joy: :crystal_ball::hamsa::sparkles::candle::magic_wand::confetti_ball::collision::mage::owl::full_moon::nazar_amulet::new_moon_face::double_exclamation_mark:

I’ve read Big Blue. It was interesting but I didn’t do all the things. Anyone who knows me, knows that it is not a good idea to me to make something even dull and pointy, like my own athame. That was lies bleeding and the ER. LOL!

I guess since I’m an Eclectic Wiccan, I follow my own path. I’m not even sure sometimes if I can claim to be Wiccan because I don’t do formal rituals or whatever. I do what feels right. Maybe I’m growing beyond that label, who knows?

Now, there are a few Wicca A Year and a Day books out there. I’ve gone through Deborah Blake’s a couple of times. Very nice information and little informal spells. Fun to do when you find one that speaks to you.

When I first started out though, the books that called most to me is Scott Cunningham’s books, and I loved Amber K’s True Magick. That got me a good start and was one of my first books. It’s got some great ideas about ethics which is good for a new witch.

From the new authors, I think my favorite it Rebel Witch, by Kelly-Ann Maddox. It’s a wonderful book with all the basics, but with finding your own way at the same time. So that’s awesome.

But yeah, Big Blue is a huge commitment, so I wish you luck with that one. Unless you have it on Kindle, just carrying it around will build you up! LOL!

You need to tell me which Wicca A Year and a Day you’ve got, it sounds wonderful! Good luck with starting that one!

I don’t follow the Wiccan path but have read a couple books on it and studied it. I have not read the two you mentioned. But, I do wish you much success on your journey!

Please keep us updated on how it’s going and what you have been doing in the book if you few comfortable enough to do so! I love following others journeys and watching them grow. I even learn knew things from them!

Blessings :purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart:

I did not read A Year and A Day, but one of my first purchases 30+ years ago was Buckland’s big blue book. I did follow along with some of the things in the book, as well as Scott Cunningham’s Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner and Living Wicca: A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner, and I think I used my self-initiation ritual from one of Scott’s books. I did get an athame immediately and carve my own symbols into the hilt, but I will admit, I am not drawn to using it in my current practice.

As to whether you wait a year and a day, a few months, a good moon phase, or do your self-initiation ritual now, my advice is do what resonates for you. I did not wait a year and a day, but then I had a gap of many years where I didn’t practice Wicca until magick came back into my life and I discovered my own path. Wicca (for me) was the perfect introduction and a lovely way to start my path. Magick has many options, diverse paths, and is so eminently customizable to personal beliefs and comfort.

The start of any journey is always the most exciting and confusing part! Don’t rush, don’t feel pressure, just enjoy the adventure :pink_heart:

Artemisia!

Thank you for that!

You make so much sense!

I have both of those Scott Cunningham books actually! I bought and read the Living Wicca Book first not realizing that it was the first book. I haven’t read the first Wicca book yet. Looking forward to it.

Hi lovely. I’m not Wiccan, everything I learnt about Wicca, I learnt here. The course in Spells8 is fabulous.

My practice has meandered all over the place to end up in the Nordic spirituality with a demonic thread. I follow Loki, the chaos god and it’s him that has taken me on my travels. There’s alot in Wicca. I’ve just bought a book that teaches Angelic Wicca, working Wiccan practices with Angels. There’s also alot of Wiccan practices that also incorporate the Norse gods too. It’s a beautiful practice that can bring alot of peace and tranquility into this mad world.

I wish you many blessings :green_heart:

I’m unfamiliar with that book, but I actually found so much information here on the Spells 8 website that I felt ready to do my self initiation on December 8th of last year.

That book certainly sounds interesting though, I’m glad you are getting started with it. :books:

If you’d like, add them and your experience with them to the book club.

My first Wicca book was Scott Cunningham’s Truth About Witchcraft Today. Back then, Silver Raven Wolf was ā€œinā€ and Raymond Buckland was ā€œout.ā€ Now, it’s the opposite. It seems it doesn’t really matter in the long run. Enjoy your path and your books!
