I thought that it had been a while since I posted a batch of weird but interesting links and videos, so it was time to do another one! These are just things that I have found interesting, or I thought y’all would like! Hope you enjoy!
Perfect!! I looked at the plants thriving on neglect. I live in Vegas, today it was only 109 degrees Fahrenheit and I’ve killed Aloe Vera and a few cacti. I was thrilled to see that it may be possible for me to handle marigolds --happy day–
I read the type of soil and light they need, and I might be able to get a “final clearance” marigold since summer is on the downside. I can plant it by the front door, our soil is very uninviting (we have loads of caliche, for those who do not know…natural cement!) and I think our dirt is very alkiline. Not sure, not a gardener. I hope this will work. Lot of sun, the ground is not inviting, and I guess Marigold can handle…so, here’s to a green thumb, I hope. (Really since living in my house, since 2008, I have killed 2 aloe vera, a spider plant [people said they were hard to kill,ahhhhh]) cacti, and 3 sunflowers have died off. However, I cannot believe it!!!, I have actually grown 2 palm trees, from seedling I picked out of the cracks of the road, they were about 2-3 inches big, and I put them in a sandwich baggie and brought them home. One is now about 4 feet in diameter and over 20 feet tall, the next one I found and planted a few years later is about 2 1/2 feet in diameter and about 15 feet tall. Wow, that is my success at growing stuff. I am impressed with myself, if I do say so!!! So, gonna try with the marigolds. I was surprised that my sunflowers kept dying out. They root and start up in no time, but I have been noticing when they die that the roots have not “taken root”. I think it is the caliche, because the roots cannot go down, they just go out, no “root” to hold the plant in place. Ah, hereI go again (Dolly Parton). Sorry all, kinda yap too much.
I love your weird but interesting links and I am that you have taken your time to research them for us. I learnt that I was an Elder Tree and Basil Plant what I am going to discover in this set. I will take my time to read and watch your links and let you know.
A lot of them come in like the subscriptions that I get with my recipes. You do NOT want to know how many recipe subscriptions I get each day. I lost count. LOL! I’m just glad you like them!
I do like the Russian Sage. I have grown other varieties before I know sage is best brown on it’s on as it can take over. Will think for next year if any of my herbs suffer over winter.
I have infused oil before but did not know about keeping watermelon firm. That is interesting.
I have Llewelyn Homepage on my IPad but if I hadn’t it would be a good recommendation to have.
I have Lobeila Cardinalis as a pond plant. Not yet in flower I am waiting patiently. I do like Cosmos they are long flowering and the best variety I love is Chocolate it does actually smell of chocolate.
I am interested in the 2nd and 3rd videos and will watch them tomorrow when I have more time.
I zeroed in on the Roman Summer Deities. I haven’t fully tackled the Romans yet (part of my path’s TODO list)
I did collide with the Romans when I was trying to display Eros for my Greek card sets. The AIs refused to attempt the image citing it violated their standards. Since Cupid was the Roman version of Eros, the AI allowed me to construct a Cupid image which I promptly renamed Eros.
I say that to say there are parallels in most western pantheons. Fire, Sun, Moon, etc. Vesta (Roman) matches well with Hestia (Greek) and sorta/kinda with Ekeko (Peruvian) as a Hearth and Home deity.
Luna has close matches with all the pantheons.
Taking a bath in moonlight (I’ll keep my clothes on) seemed really interesting.
