Etymologically speaking, the word “crone” is said to come from an Old English word that was used as an insult, that’s correct. Some people today have chosen to reclaim the word and use it to mean a wise old woman.

I think it’s important to recognize here that reactions to words are going to be subjective. It is fully within your right to choose not to use the word, just as it is within someone else’s right to reclaim it as a word of power. It’s also important to recognize that definitions of words can change over time, changing the energy associated with them, too. However, that’s also something subjective and will differ between people and cultures.

What’s great about Spells8 is just as @TS5 explained - we are an online community with people from all over the world! It’s only natural that we will have different points of view, even to the point of disagreement. As long as we can all handle ourselves with respect and civility, those disagreements are perfectly okay.

I called him nasty because in one version of the myth he kills his own father. But like you said we don’t know the absolute truth. If I offended anyone , I apologize.

Disagreements are healthy. They make you question your beliefs. They help you develop critical thinking skills. They help you learn to articulate your thoughts. All of these skills are necessary to the development of a wise woman, whatever you decide to call her.
