I am looking for help to bring calm to a cranky/ aggressive dog. My 10 year old has got quite cranky lately and has been snapping. Last night he actually caught my foot and drew blood. Its way off character but he had a health check at the vet and all is OK. I am jist very reluctant to take him out while he is like this.
Does anyone have a spell/jar that i could try to bring calm back to.him and restore his normally playful character?
I am sorry to hear about the change in personality as your dog has gotten older. While I don’t have any spell ideas for you, as a vet tech I would consider that it could be behavioral or medical. Have there been any big changes to your household? A move? A new pet? Working different hours? Older critters don’t adapt as well to changes.
Pain can change personality as well. As dogs and cats age they can develop arthritis or have nerve pain. Are there any areas that are more sensitive now, back, neck, hip? If you notice anything like this it is worth bringing up to the vet for xrays, an exam or at very least pain medication.
Aging can change how the brain works and while 10 isn’t very old, some dog breeds do tend to live shorter lives. As they age they can have cognitive issues, lose hearing or sight. Does he get startled like he didn’t know you were there? Does he seem confused at time? Does vocalize more at night than usual?
I am sorry that it’s happening. It’s always distressing when things change with a pet and you don’t know why.
Thanks for that. There havent really been any major changes that i can think of. I am working less hours so am at home more than I used to be but not sure if that would be the cause ( unless he is sick of the sight of me🤣).
He doesnt seem to be in pain or anything and js still quite active and playful…its just that he seems to have developed a really cranky side. He is an English Bulldog and i know that their lifespan isn’t as long as other dogs but the vet said he is in great shape and still very active for his age. I have deliberately made sure he didnt become one of those stereotypical overweight English bulldogs. He does startle more than he used to any he barks at strange things…like lemons .
I just dont want him to snap at other people, or worse.(which he has never done)
I completely understand. It’s upsetting when they do something uncharacteristic and then you worry what if…? I’ve been there with one of my cats before. It’s a tough situation.
I’ll send some positive healing energy to you both.
I did look online to see what I could find and I really like this spell - figure it can be for both physical and emotional healing.
Sorry to hear about the doggy difficulties. Artemisia has some great advice, and I like the spell she shared. If I can add onto the table, I’d suggest that most calming spells could be used or adapted to suit your pup. Spells that need to be ingested, applied externally, or involve EOs might require a lot of checking to make sure they’re safe for furry friends, so I’d recommend looking for those that focus on sound, sight, and/or energy work instead. Candle spells may or may not be a good option, depending on how active your dog is (and if they’re okay being nearby monitored candles)
Here an anti-anxiety spell jar that you might place near where your pet sleeps/rests:
You might use a sigil to banish anxiety and fear:
If you have a clear quartz, you could put it to use as well:
Just a few more ideas for you. Whatever you choose, I hope you can find some things that help your sweet pup be at ease and back to his playful self!
@BryWisteria Thank you so much for these. I’ll have a look and see what is best suited for him. He is around candles all the time because I light them every day so that might be the best option.
