Apple and Blackberry Mulled Cider

Apple and Blackberry Mulled Cider

Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients:

200 g fresh blackberries (~ 1 1/2 cups) – plus more to serve
1/2 tbsp caster sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
440 ml apple cider (~ 2 cups)
3 sprigs fresh thyme

Directions:

Add all the ingredients to a large saucepan, and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for at least 5 minutes over a low heat, then pass the mixture through a fine strainer to produce a clear liquid. Serve with more fresh berries and thyme, if desired.

Notes:

Please be aware that for this recipe I used the British version of cider – i.e., the slightly fizzy alcoholic stuff – not the American version, which I believe is basically what we would call cloudy apple juice. I’m sure apple juice would work fine too, but if you want the extra stomach-warming capabilities of the alcohol, make sure you use the right stuff. If you’re going to attempt to brighten up your November, you may as well do it properly!

It does! The page it’s on says it’s for Yule, but I can see where it works for Imbolc too!
