I have been on the path of being a baby witch on and off for the last year now. I’ve been yearning to find what deity I connect to the most at this point in my life. I lost my favorite grandma in November who grew up catholic, but she became distant from religion as she aged. My family really didn’t raise me on any specific religion/spirituality, so it wasn’t until college that I was searching for a spirituality that was fit for me. I am still deeply grieving the loss of my grandmother, but I just took the quiz through this website and it connected me with Hades. I am excited to learn more about and work with him while also improving myself and witchcraft. If you have any tips or tricks please let me know!
Welcome @kam1 ! It’s great to have you with us! I’m from Minnesota and have been practicing many different aspects of the craft for 35+ years. I currently work with voodoo, chaos magick and divination. I hope to soon start studying and working more in necromancy.
A great place to start is the courses here in spells8. They have a lot of great information.
No need to worry about what deity you want to connect with. Once you start working your practice regularly, they will show you signs in dreams or anywhere. In my 35+ years I have never really worked with just one. When doing a spell I decide who would be best fit for helping me and call on them and ask if they would be willing to assist. I have never been turned down! Lol
This is a great place for learning and growing. If you ever have questions don’t hesitate to ask. There is always someone here who can guide you.
Welcome to the forum! I’m Bry, one of the moderators and an Eclectic Witch. It’s very nice to meet you
I’m so sorry for the loss of your grandmother. It sounds like you connected with Hades, a God of death and the afterlife, who can be a source of reassurance during times of loss. If you feel called to connect with Him, here is a helpful guide with more information, offerings, and ways to work with Him:
There is also a devotional hymn you could read or watch along with:
I’d say you’re already doing the best things, which are learning more about your interests and connecting with others who study magick! Please know that the coven community is here and we’re all learning along with you. Feel free to use the Q&A category to reach out if you find yourself with questions - it’s a friendly space, and folks are always happy to help with magickal studies
Hi, @kam1! I’m Amethyst from Southern West Virginia. Welcome to the forum!
I’m sorry about the loss of your grandmother. She must have been a special person.
I don’t have a tip or trick really, but some advice. Wait a while to buy anything. Don’t go running out to buy everything under the sun you think you might need. That cute cauldron? You might not use. Wait a while and see what you’re going to use in your daily practice, be it candles or crystals.
That way you can spend your money on the stuff you do need. Oh, and don’t forget to keep an eye out at places like Goodwill and dollar stores. You might find something you can use there!
Anyhow, it’s nice to meet you! I look forward to getting to know you!
Condolences on your physical loss, Bry has provided some great info to connect with Hades, so maybe you can find a little comfort in knowing she’s not alone.
There are many tips and tricks we all have, but they may not work for you - finding your own way in your Craft makes it that much more potent. That said, my first tip would be to browse the spells8 courses, maybe start with the self-initiation if you haven’t already. Then, just take your time - there’s a huge amount of info here, plus a few rabbit holes (when you click an article which has other links which you click and then you get lost in links lol), but the real rich stuff comes from right here, the fabulous coven members. Have a browse, keep asking questions but always ask “is this right for me and my Craft”.
You can find all kinds of things here that will help with your path. @BryWisteria is an amazing mod who knows Spells8 well. I would start with her suggestions and expand out with the great search function to find what you need. Many others will pitch in if you have questions. In fact, many of us like to do that. I do because it helps me understand more than just what I’m pursuing.
OBTW: I put myself under the Chaos umbrella and I am studying belief systems.
Hi kam1, I’m so sorry for your loss. I just wanted to say that if you feel drawn to Hades then by all means work with him but don’t ever feel that you need to pick a deity by a quiz or because you feel you need to. Sometimes they come to us in subtle ways, like with the quiz, and sometimes they smack us upside the head. I have found the best way is to read about them and if you feel interested then call upon them to see if they would be willing to work with you.
I laugh because years ago I felt that I only wanted to work with Celtic deities since I’m Scottish. However, I kept receiving messages from Medusa of all people!! I had numerous things happen pointing to her but ignored them because honestly at the time I didn’t think she was worthy, was she even a goddess???. This went on and on, and one day I was cleaning out my moms attic and I came across a report I had done in 5th grade Mythology class on MEDUSA!! Of all the things for my mom to have saved. I remembered being so upset that I drew Medusa out of the hat the teacher passed around class to determine who we would write our report on. In spite of this she and I have had a close relationship ever since, she didn’t hold any grudges, lol. Don’t worry so much about picking the right deity. Some will come and go, while others will be more constant. In the end you will know which ones you make a close connection with.
