Being a witch with adhd

I like doing it, because I can lay my stuff out on the roof (yes, really the roof of the house) but at the same time it´s a bit of an effort to make, because I have to climb my ladder…sooooo, especially when it´s cold and rainy it´s a bit of a pain.
Yes, cleansing with smoke, salt or selenite is of course totally valid.

The roof? Neat. But you’re far braver than I am!

I spend more time organizing that I do actually practicing my craft. For grounding, I either go outside and walk around barefoot, hug trees or sit on my grounding mat. I have failed miserably at meditating in the traditional sense. I do my own grounding ritual that involves Cacao and my mat. Using the cacao drink, helps my brain to know there’s a beginning and an end without obsessing over it. I don’t force my brain to stop ruminating, I just concentrate on the act of sipping my drink. This has been very helpful. Remembering is an ongoing battle. What’s helped, a little, is writing things down in my spells journal. This is just a nondescript notebook where I jot down incantations and intentions as they come to me. Now, if I could only remember to do the spells! I don’t do a grimoire, it was one more thing I kept failing at. I read ALOT, so I write notes in the books and underline what stands out to me. I keep the few books that have made an impact in a go-to pile. When I need refreshers or a connection to my craft, I pull out my books and flip through them. I think, for me, removing the expectation of elaborate rituals has helped. I do still get down on myself for not being a proper witch sometimes. I light candles daily, with little fanfare; just a quick thank-you to Spirits and ancestors most of the time. Anything more wouldn’t be authentic to me or them. It’s really important to find your own thing and do it to the best of your own ability, when you can. Now that I’ve completely overshared…….

@sheri Merry Meet Sheri

I don’t think we have met. I am not the best at traditional meditation either. I find what works for me is shower meditation which fits in with daily life I imagine the water coming from the shower head as a white light going through my head down my body, I place my hands in front so the water flows down my finger tips and feet any negative energy being released and going down the drain. The heat of the water I find then relaxes my shoulders and then I am clean and ready for the day. You have found your grounding and works for you we are all different and what works for one may not work for others. You are finding your own path

Visualizing while taking a shower is a really good idea. I’ve been drawn to water lately, so this might fit beautifully! Thanks!!

Hi, @sheri! Welcome to the forum! What a great first post!

I agree. Do your own thing. Make it meaningful to you. That’s all that matters. And you haven’t overshared by half. These people here know way too much about me, and it’s all good! LOL!

Yeah…I tend to reveal all the things, then panic! I’m learning to embrace and be proud of everything that make me uniquely me. It’s only taken six decades.

I hear you. I used to be embarrassed by my babble. Now I embrace it and try to make it unique.

Hi @IrenaMoonshower and great question!

This is something I’m still struggling to understand myself, but I remember thinking that the awareness itself (of ADHD) would need a complete shift in mindset. I’m not flaky, or incapable of finishing things, or anything else I was called, my brain just works differently; I’ve been saying this for years, my brain may work differently to yours, but it still works. It’s a little high maintenance, but it’s got lots of heart too.

Rule number 1: give myself a break. That is my only rule, because I’ve spent decades believing the foolishness of humans, and all that will not be undone overnight. It’s not that the rules don’t apply, it’s just a different set of rules; most people are probably like Winnie the Pooh, and some of us are Tigger. Bouncing from one thing to another, always on the move always have to be doing something can’t stop there’s more to do… You simply cannot adhere to the conventional thinking of society if you don’t think in the same way. You see grass and swings surrounded by blocks of flats - I see adventures, stories, experiences, love and laughter.

Like everything else, my advice is you do you… find your flow, do what works for you. Trying to organise things like everyone else will end in failure because you’re not like everyone else, you’re a unicorn in a field of horses. I am personally still trying to find what works for me in all areas, but I swear by meditation of some kind, even Mindfulness. I got myself a finger Labyrinth to use at the start to help with the fidgeting thing, now I barely use it, it looks like this

Literally a Maze carved into a piece of wood the size of my lap, it was great for me; but don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to tools and resources to help you. Maybe, you already have everything you need :people_hugging:

I just finished “The Neurodivergent Witch” by Raven Blackwood. She covers chronic illness, ND and other disabilities. It addresses aspects of being on the spectrum that I struggle with daily, not just in my practice. It’s the best supportive, validating and applicable book on witchcraft I’ve ever read. I believe it’s only offered as an e-book, though.

I wanna get that one. It’s on my list. It sounds like a good one!

Thank You @rebecca8, It is nice to see some similarities about waxing and waning regarding the interests of the craft. I try to journal, but find it hard too do it every day.

Hello, @Katharina I love your message [quote=“katharina, post:3, topic:67322”]
I followed my natural curiosity and hyperfixations and I think, the fact that witchcraft is such a wide field with so my paths kept me going, because there was always something new to explore.

I feel the same way. I try and do a little here and a little there.

Ive learned and self diagnosed from Pinterest. Since my brain works with visuals, it helped me understand and was short and simple to scroll and pin. It is also easy to refer to later.

Hello @Moonbeam , I do the same thing, it’s quick, easy and it incorporates what we already do. For those who enjoy baths, it doesn’t have to be elaborate all you need is water then drain when done. Im learning to double up why rituals with things I already do on a daily basis. Can’t live without my coffee, so I add intention. I get ready in the bathroom so I moved my alter there, on a small shelf with a tea light candle, my incense, whatever I feel to add.

I’m going to talk to my counselor about it next time I go. It might help me. Then again, I may just have a short attention span. But it would be good to find out.
