Good afternoon, my dear coven. I apologize if this isn’t the right place for this topic but I am still shaken up over what almost happened to me and I wanted to warn you all in case similar happens to you. Earlier I had gotten a message from one of my friends, from their old Discord account that had gotten stolen from them and it surprised me and made me think he had recovered that account. The following conversation happened (I am the pink, the scammer using my friend’s stolen account is the red):
Things didn’t feel right when this Miguel person told me I needed to change my email to the one he suggested. That was when I showed both my brother and my S/O all of this and they both told me it’s a scam and to report and block both accounts as well as warn my friend that his old account was being used by the scammer who stole it from him, to claim more victims. If anyone here uses Discord, please, please be careful and be aware if you receive similar messages from someone on there! Do not ever change your email to what anyone asks you to change it to. The real Discord staff would never ask you to do such things!
Also … this same scammer tried to pull the same trick on my S/O, who wasn’t going to have any of it lsdkal;alksf;kafsl
Here is his response to them (he’s the blue). He’s angry that they had the audacity to prey on me and to then have the gall to attempt to do it to him (spoilered because he cursed them out s;dlksak;dsaskd;l):
I think I’m safe now but I have blocked and reported the scammy accounts and my friend told me he’s glad I told him about it so he can warn our mutuals and the ESO server he’s in. I hope nobody else falls victim to this. I feel very fortunate that my brother and S/O intervened to help me!
Yup scammers are everywhere that’s why I never trust that the person on the pic messaging me is actually that person. It’s that way everywhere they are phishing
Scammers are yucky! And what’s scary is my friend told me that is exactly how they stole his account! Same message and everything! I was very lucky that I had my loved ones intervene when they did because I would have been devastated if I’d lose my account
Also have to be careful scammers will say that u have a trial up or something to get you to download a virus or hit accept on something. Always call the companies actual number and never the number on the email. Almost lost my laptop that way
for sure me too.i learned my lesson. The emails look legit too! It will make u think it’s real. Even “guys” “girls” that have tried to talk to me so many of them were either 1. Scammers 2. Not who they say they are. Number 2 is more obvious than one. But I’m Leary of everyone who messages me. With good reason
Number one is most prevalent
I get anxious about messages on Discord too, for the same reasons. I feel safe receiving messages on here since if anything feels off to me I can add a forum mod to the conversation to help me. Everywhere else is spooky!
Although I hope it never happens. Just be over cautious. And if unsure ask someone. There are so many scammers. Even on card machines. They have infiltrated many systems. Most systems warn that there is always the possibility of being hacked. There are precautions you can take. I downloaded a Vpn privacy thing and a firewall. I got lucky and got a month free trial on both. Also checking ATM machines before you insert your card. Pull on the mouth piece make sure it doesn’t come apart
Block shady emails. They can come straight to your inbox
I would say better yet send them to spam so they get flagged
Or the mouth part of the machine may be in combination or without a sticky pad of numbers on top of the actual numbers. Almost like a stickerbut thicker like close to a mousepad look. It can be peeled off
Oh goodness, I’m so sorry - what a stressful situation! Scammers are the worst.
Good for you for reporting them both and for letting your friend know about his hacked account. Fingers crossed Discord will quickly take down the spam accounts.
