As I headed for bed, I noticed a visitor from far away on my window screen. Back in Indiana, we had lots of these stink bugs- so many that I paid no attention to them. After all, they don’t bite or anything. Their only claim to fame is their smell.
One site refused perusal unless I allowed them to spam me. Not cool.

I found out that this familiar shield shaped bug symbolizes protection, patience, perseverance, intuition, and a quest for meaning. Seek out the sources of the negativity you feel so you can defend yourself.
The Chinese believe a tea made of the bugs gets the life force moving. I wouldn’t try them unless I were desperate for food, but the article says several cultures eat the cinnamon flavored bug. Maybe I could get chi moving in another way.
He stayed overnight, maybe moving 3 inches sideways. Not bothering anyone, so I’ll leave him be. The stink isn’t a constant thing- only exuded as self defense. I am concerned that he isn’t getting anything to eat. He is a pretty big bug.
He’s pretty sedentary. When I closed my window, I told him not to be alarmed, I wasn’t after him. He moved one leg in alarm. This is actually common for stink bugs, making them easy prey as well as being good at playing hide and seek.
That feels like a tidbit of forbidden information - I’m going to think of this everytime I see one of these stinky little friends!
Those are some wonderful correspondences. There’s a lot more to these bugs than first meets the eye, it seems! Fun to know. We have a lot of them around here.
He’s lucky to have found your space to come visit. I hope your new friend is doing okay!
