Building a routine

I have been falling behind on my prayer routine. This weekend was hell and my depression stopped me from engaging in prayer and spells for the last 4 days. How can I get back in the swing of things?

It’s ok to have ups and downs in our routine, life is like that. First, how are you feeling now? Maybe if you still feel a little off, just close your eyes, put on some headphones and listen to some calming music, let any negative feelings flow out of you and down into the ground. If you’ve had a rough weekend, you’re probably going to feel that in your energy. When you’re ready, I find to get myself back into routine, I follow the morning and evening Wiccan prayer on Spells8 app. It’s 5 minutes, everything is done for you, all you have to do is sit, close your eyes and listen. When you’re ready you can build more. But take your time. No rush. We are human, not machines, and sometimes we drive ourselves too hard and then crash. Take care of you, and the magic will follow. :sparkling_heart:

I think we have all been here! I find when I am feeling too overwhelmed to put in the energy for a ritual or a spell or even a prayer…. I need a bath (or a shower!). Something about just soaking and letting my brain just be off usually helps. Sometimes I listen to music (healing frequencies are great) or I listen to a meditation (but don’t get upset if your mind wanders). Sometimes you just need to acknowledge that you’re tired or overwhelmed or depressed. Name it. Feel it. Acknowledge it. Then take tiny steps to get back where you want to be! It’s normal! Feel better soon!

Hi Gray. First of all, I have to ask. Are you seeing someone for your depression? It can make the world of a difference.

Setting that aside, I would suggest just picking back up. Start at the beginning. You know you don’t HAVE to do a spell every day. And while it’s nice to praise our Gods daily, if you just talk to them they know what you’re going through.

Depression is sometimes one step forward and two steps back, but you’ll get there yet!

Good. Do you have your own transportation? If I remember right, you’re disabled. You can’t walk in nature but why not take a drive to the park and sit under a tree? That might help you too!

I don’t have my own ride so when I go out, I try to notice what’s changed in the leaves since I last went out. It’s not a walk but it’s better than nothing.

Good luck today!

There’s a local park near my house but I’m waiting for my wheelchair to get fixed so I got to wait until that’s done. But I’ll definitely take that advice later today

Sometimes going out in nature or getting close to it really helped. I sit by my window a lot and look and the trees and bushes.

My advice is to start small. Choose one thing you want to bring back into your practice. Don’t try to bring everything back into practice all at once or you may end up overwhelming yourself.

I agree with the advice of everyone else here, too. It’s all great advice!

I also just wanted to drop a video here from my YouTube channel about building a routine. I think you might find it helpful!

I came here to basically say just that… start small. For anything you’ve gotten off track with due to depression. I know how it goes, for certain! I let my strength training go for almost 2 years. Started back really slowly 4 weeks ago, hit a couple of tough weeks and got off track, but today I did a small step back.

It’s too easy to get overwhelmed with trying to get back to doing all the things at once and there’s no reason you need to do it that way. Starting small with real, measurable goals works for me and perhaps it can help you.

One step, one goal, one thing at a time. :hugs:

MeganB,

I enjoyed your video so much. Sometimes I don’t have the time to do all my routine, but I light a candle and incense everyday to help me smooth my day. I try to meditate daily, but if I 'm too tired I end up falling asleep. A “thank you” every night is a sacred thing, I cannot forget that. Thanks for the tips, especially blessing the coffee in the morning helps me a lot!

Blessings be with you :heartpulse:
