Can someone help me interpret this reading?

With today being my birthday I thought it would be the best day to do the deity tarot spread to start listening and see who is there.

I’ve been feeling drawn to the egyptian and norse pantheons, ancient egypt is my first love and what led me to witchcraft. But I am not the best at interpretation with tarot yet. I would love some help narrowing it down .

Ok after doing some research, I think its either Thoth or Odin? I’m not sure which… but leaning towards Thoth. Would love to hear others thoughts? Also would love suggestions for guided meditations that will help me further explore this❤️

Hello @Kiara_Astra,

First things first - happy birthday! Hope you had/are having a magickal day :birthday: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

It sounds like you already have some ideas - as someone who believes the cards speak most intimately to the one who draws them, I’d urge you to keep those ideas that your intuition has given you close to your heart :grinning: :+1:

That being said, I know it can help to get some outside eyes on the cards in hopes of opening up new ways to interpret them. Here are a few of my thoughts, coming from an outsider. I hope they can be helpful for you!

Right off the bat, as more than half the cards are reversed, it gives me the sense that there might be some kind of blockage between you and this particular deity. They might not be ready to make contact, or They might be trying to reach out but Their messages aren’t coming through/being heard yet. Just an intuitive thought from looking at the cards.

As for the identity of this deity? Let’s see…

Card One: The Deity - The Hermit (R)

Cards Two through Five: Traits and Characteristics - Ace of Pentacles (R), Knight of Swords (R), The Moon, Four of Cups (R)

Cards Six and Seven: Signs and Symbols - Four of Pentacles (R), The Chariot

From a tarot-based perspective, there is a lot of earth (pentacles) and water (cups, moon) energy. There’s only one air (swords), and a lack of fire (wands). This hints to me that the deity in question is associated with water/earth traits.

The Hermit is not aligned with a gender (in my opinion), and as earth and water are feminine-aligned elements, I’d lean towards a female deity/Goddess.

The two strongest cards in the reading are The Moon and The Chariot - as both are major arcana, and both are upright. The Moon is a card of the night, illusion, dreams, intuition. It makes me think this is likely a Goddess of the Moon (there are many!). The Chariot is a card of victory, control, roads, travel, action.

The first Goddess that comes to mind with the Moon and the Chariot for me is Hekate, as She is a Goddess of the night, crossroads, the moon, and magick. She is sometimes depicted with a lantern (like The Hermit).

That being said, I could be biased, because Her deity image on Spells8 has a lot of the imagery shown in your cards - from the two guardian dogs (like the lions in The Chariot) to The Moon to the lantern of The Hermit, this is just a dead ringer in my eyes.

This should come with the disclaimer that we hear a lot about Hekate in the forum - She is one of the most popular deities. I’m less familiar with the Nordic and Egyptian deities, so I’m less likely to think of them when it comes to deities.

Hopefully others will have some additional ideas and input for you to consider!

Whoever it is, I hope you’re able to connect with Them soon. Blessed be! :sparkles:

I found this video that might be helpful!

If you have narrowed it down to a few possibilities, you can use a pendulum and ask yes/no questions to pinpoint it even further. That might be a helpful additional tool to use.

Personally, I did the tarot spread last year and ended up with 4 possible answers. I picked questions that were clear yes or no for each and used a pendulum to determine the answer.
