cap full moon advice
from a capricorn moon

Venus Reclining on a Sea Monster with Cupid - by English artist John Deare from the Getty Museum Collection
In a day or two we will have a full moon in Capricorn. When I was born, the moon was in Capricorn, so I know this upcoming energy well.
If you are into astrology you’ll know when the moon is in Capricorn it is opposite its home base in Cancer. Some people associate Cancer with mommy and Capricorn as daddy. So Cap moons, as an astrological energy, can be complex and “require management”.
TIPS for this CAP FULL MOON -
- You’re going to have energy and want to “do” things in real life. Plan accordingly.
Do you want to set up some mystical activity* for yourself? Do you want to go on a sunset hike with a friend in the spirit of the mountain goat? Do you want to re-invigorate some creative practice, make a thing no one’s seen before? Do you want to go classic full moon and go out with friends to see who you meet?
- Healing is always possible.
I know everything is SO MESSED UP. On account of my daily rage - righteous, but also, is daily rage my best, most skillful stance? - my family bought me a t-shirt that says DON’T GET ME STARTED. Ironically the shirt was a fun conversation starter at first, but now I never want to wear it because I’M ALREADY STARTED. It’s all too much - the meanness, the greed, the lies, the corruption, the destruction.
But people are waking up every day. Not in the derogatory “woke” way, but literally, more and more people are having their compassion activated every day. More and more people are GETTING STARTED.
When I meditate, I keep getting visions of great and beautiful healings, balms for all our wounds.
My logical mind can’t see how that would happen.
Still, I remind myself, I don’t know everything; sometimes there are miracles, sometimes the brick wall turns to feathers.
- In times like these, the future starts to leave clues and gifts for those who take the time to look.
Which brings me to highlighting the mystical side of Capricorn – it IS the Sea Goat - which is quite an evocative creature if you think about it.
The top parts of the Sea Goat body are shaped like a pretty muscular goat with pretty significant horns. And the bottom of the Sea Goat is shaped like a powerful mermaid or serpent aquatic tail.
The Sea Goat is emblematic of the all-encompassing depths of the sea AND the courageous, clever tenacity of goats as we know them on land. Power in both realms. Power to travel between worlds. Power that confounds with its originality.
The Sea Goat’s form makes us instantly understand, for all our human hubris, we don’t know everything about everything.
I’m personally calling in that Sea Goat energy for this full moon - practical (like a goat) and mystical (oceanic), effortlessly, at the same time.
I am going to use this full moon contemplating my future-vision alongside the mystic Sea Goat.
You are welcome to join me.
Likewise, you are welcome to do your own thing, or do nothing at all.

But take it from this Capricorn moon - you are going to feel like doing something on the full moon and now is a good time to figure out what that thing is.
This is a perfect time to distill your ideas of what you want to accomplish with that Sea Goat energy.
Until next time,
Jess
*I am teaching the practice of earth gridding for the Cap Full Moon in the Lunar Library. Library patrons – I was happenstance in a MAGICAL SETTING for this one – it was truly fit for a Sea Goat - I can’t wait for you to see what I mean!
p.s. if you aren’t in the library, you can still earth grid for the full moon (or anytime!).
My method for earth gridding is very simple -
-
gather your natural materials – flowers, leaves, stones, crystals, shells, branches, sticks, seeds
-
find a spot to create the grid
-
with intention, place the stones, flowers etc., on the earth in a pattern you find pleasing (I like to have one stone in the center of my grid or a few stones circling the center space, and I like things fairly symmetrical; but everyone should follow their own knowing about it…)
-
understand the grid can be an amplifier, a portal or an anchor depending on what you need, understand the grid is now “turned on” and has its own energy and intelligence
-
meditate next to the grid – center your practice around just “being with” the grid, sharing presence with it, side by side like the grid is your kind, wise teacher - share energy and information with the grid as you look out onto the world, receive all insights
-
if your mind wanders, bring it back to the presence of the grid
-
when you feel complete, clean up the grid or leave it for someone else to magically find
Enjoy!
“Monster” is derived from the Latin noun monstrum, “divine portent,” itself formed on the root of the verb monere, “to warn.” It came to refer to living things of anomalous shape or structure, or to fabulous creatures like the sphinx who were composed of strikingly incongruous parts, because the ancients considered the appearance of such beings to be a sign of some impending supernatural event. Monsters, like angels, functioned as messengers and heralds of the extraordinary. They served to announce impending revelation, saying, in effect, “Pay attention; something of profound importance is happening.”
- Susan Stryker
“If there must be kings, let them be oak kings. Let our queens be wild apple trees. And our elders, let them be the wise, immortal yew.
It’s a gift to be with these trees. In these old woods, I find reassurance: animism isn’t just a concept. It’s not something to convince ourselves of. Animism is an experience. You can feel the aliveness here, the intelligence. Spirit.”
“Before you beast mode, perhaps it’s wise to take inventory of the creatures. There is no single beast to mode. Not in this day and age of biohacking and I liked it so I got it in every color . However, this internal zoo within me is forming a cabal intent upon thwarting our collective achievements in favor of all the things each little beasty demands at any given moment. To indulge any one beast’s mode is to lose the forest in the trees (sumn like that). And to try and appease everyone is an exercise in futility. The best I can hope for is an internal system of governance wherein each little guy gets their fair share in due time. I may not wish something so lofty as to tame these beasts, but I can hopefully one day get each of them to respond by name.”
“This is what I believe: That I am I. That my soul is a dark forest. That my known self will never be more than a little clearing in the forest. That gods, strange gods, come forth from the forest into the clearing of my known self, and then go back. That I must have the courage to let them come and go. That I will never let mankind put anything over me, but that I will try always to recognize and submit to the gods in me and the gods in other men and women.”
- D. H. Lawrence
“If we can stay with the tension of opposites long enough —sustain it, be true to it—we can sometimes become vessels within which the divine opposites come together and give birth to a new reality.”
— Marie-Louise von Franz
