Catch Up Challenge: Cat Magick - Egyptian Cat Deities

Oh wow! Such a great post & those are some amazing pictures also! :revolving_hearts: I do like cats so I enjoyed reading about the Cat Deities for Egypt! I remember my mom telling me things about cats in Egypt & how they were… highly revered  there… I think that’s the word… She was absolutely :100: a cat lover & especially the big cats. Which I can’t honestly say that I don’t like them also

I can see that this has already been added to the Egyptian Deities Master post so that is wonderful! Thank you for the information  & amazing pictures! :camera_flash:

Thank you and are most welcome. I am currently putting together info ablut the Egyptian Moon deities…who are strangely all male. This is somewhat unsual when you look at the other major pantheons.

I should have it done by Monday

Oh that is awesome too & also a bit curious… other pantheons mostly have female deities associated with the moon :full_moon: So that is quite interesting! :face_with_monocle: I am looking forward to that post! But please there is no rush, so don’t put any undue pressure on yourself to finish it by Monday

I’m the same way - the stories themselves are interesting, for sure! If I had more time in my day, I think I’d spend more time reading mythology and learning about different cultures. Your post definitely helped me learn more about Egyptian mythology!

What a beautiful thread and a treat for a cat lover! :smile_cat: :two_hearts:

While reading about Bast, I’ve always felt like there was something missing from the story… like here’s the cat, but where are the claws? :smile_cat: The part about Sekhmet made things click. I’ve been following a priestess of hers, and there’s been something familiar about the energy I haven’t been able to place. Now that picture looks clearer too

That duality of light and dark feminine. Feels like it crops up again and again. The whole madonna / whore thing, one’s a healer and the other a destroyer. One’s the good girl who does as she’s told and keeps quiet, and the other’s the exciting one you can’t handle. So over the time Bast and Sekhmet got this deal too… that explains things.

Now to get to know the real Goddesses with all the parts that don’t fit inside a neat box :black_heart:

(Good things cats are liquid and neatly fit any kind of a box, claws and all! :smile_cat:)

I think Sekhmet is already dual in nature, as she’s an aspect of Hathor. It’s relatable, though. I’m generally nice until someone hurts my loved ones and then I might turn into Sekhmet myself.

Speaking of which, I recently tried to draw Sekhmet.

Sharing again because the other one is buried in the Demonolatry club where others might not think to look for her. :joy:

Oh hello there dark beauty :black_heart:
One knows how to draw another

She sounds very similar to Kali :black_heart: Having been a people pleaser most of my life the wildness feels really refreshing  Just very free self expression, letting whatever wants to flow flow. Even if it’s something as damnable as slaughtering everyone around you – not something we’d take into practice obviously, but that very real impulse is there sometimes and can be met with love too.

I love this. So different to the traditionalportrayal.of Sekhmet. She looks beautiful but not to be messed with!

Thank you for this wonderful and comprehensive post!

The current challenge got me thinking more seriously about Bast. I’ve had a wooden Bast cat statue since I was first drawn to magick over 30 years ago but never thought about or felt called to work with her until recently.
So, as typical of me, I go on a research bender looking up old posts and websites learning more. I appreciate your time, effort, and knowledge! Thank you even if it took me a long while to find this!
