Notes:

In this recipe, we use cake mix to make this Christmas Popcorn. Normally, cake mix is heated to a high temperature during the course of baking it which kills any potential bacteria that may be in the flour.

Since this popcorn isn’t baked, it contains “raw” flour. So, if you are concerned about this, I recommend heat-treating the cake mix prior to making the Christmas popcorn.

The easiest way to heat-treat cake mix is in the microwave. Simply add them to a microwave-safe bowl. Then microwave on high in bursts of 30 seconds, stirring in between each burst. Use a thermometer to test the mixture in a few places to make sure it has reached 165 degrees F throughout the entire mixture.
