I just received my Athame yesterday. This morning I cleansed it using smoke. I used a lavender incense. That is all I had at the moment. Will that work or do I need to get sage?

Absolutely, it all about the intention and if you used lavender incense and felt that it worked to cleanse it, then you are good! You don’t have to use sage.

Just popping in here to second what @Artemisia has said. Sage is not a required herb in witchcraft. There are many other herbs out there that will do the trick, too! I’ve used patchouli or even dragon’s blood to cleanse an object because those are the plant allies that I felt would work well with what I was doing.
If you feel that your athame is now consecrated and cleansed then that’s all you’ve gotta do!

You can use any smoke that feels right to you. You can also use water, crystals or moonlight. It is all about your intentions.
