Hello everyone! We found a BUNCH of these crystals on a friend’s farm. Can anyone help ID what they are? These are the best of the bunch. Happy to take more videos and/or pics as requested
I use an app called healing pal for crystal identification. Those are really interesting. Are they all diamond shaped?
Ill take a look! And most of them ues, or clusters of diamonds growing together. Some are more pitted than others
I maybe wrong, but I’m guessing fluorite from the block shape. The dark thread like inclusions may be tourmaline, which can cause the pitting.
Have you tried scratch testing? Scratch the bottom of a ceramic dish to see if the stone scratches it or leaves a colored mark. Alternately, see if the stone scratches glass or vice versa. Keep a record of your findings and look them up on a Mohs Hardness Scale.
This is a tough one. Could be fluorite, clear quartz, possibly a calcite, or something dendritic…very beautiful though
I’m going to go all chaos witch and guess that they’re glass! From a crystal chandelier or something like that. It’s at least it’s a good option to eliminate.
These are good tests to make
My app follows that these are ghost crystals Also known as: Phantom quartz, Lodolite, Thousand Layer quartz, Amphibole quartz, Garden quartz.
They don’t look like any crystal I’ve seen. The cut of them makes me think it’s either a glass or a resinous type of material. Since you found a lot of them, and assuming they all look similar, I’d venture to guess it’s not actually a crystal and it’s instead the remnants of something such as @CelestiaMoon suggested.
The hardness test will help, but you can also take them to a geologist (maybe at a local college) or a jewelry store and they might be able to help you figure out what they are.
I should add that these have been found here for years after a rain storm in an embankment
Ahh, okay - those look different, you’re right! It must just be the way the first picture looks to me I’m definitely no crystal expert. I hope you’re able to figure it out!
They definitely arnt quartz! Too soft. A ceramic mug scratched the crystal and created a white powder
You might be able to find more specific information if you look up different stones and geographical information for your specific area. That could help you narrow down what is regionally available to you.
I think it might be selenite? My fingernail scratched it
Interesting! There aren’t a lot of minerals out there that can be scratched by a fingernail – well, not a lot that is available to the average person I looked up the second image you shared through Google Lens and some other selenite images do come it. That might be what it is, or at least a variation of it!
No matter what they are they are beautiful I like rocks, crystals, minerals I find in nature. They seem more special to me no matter what they are!
should have a hardness of 7 if these are ghost crystals
These are like the selenite variety
They have been IDed! They are gypsum selenite
Very cool! Where are you located? (state/province or Country) So neat that you are able to find these.
