Today is Day of Danu, the celtic mother goddess, primal mother figure, source of life, prosperity, and the divine lineage of the Tuatha Dé Danann, a mythical race of gods in Ireland.
Her name likely means “divine waters,” linking her to rivers (like the Danube), springs, and the nurturing aspects of the Earth.
The Danube flows through
Vienna
Vienna lies in a depression called the Vienna Basin. It has been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic period, as archaeological finds show. While people roamed the area as early as the Paleolithic period, continuous settlement by early farmers began in the Neolithic, favored by a mild climate and fertile soils. Long before the Romans, who gave Vienna its name (Vindobona – the good airs/winds; which is a nice way of saying that it is ALWAYS windy in Vienna), Celtic tribes settled here, as well as other ancient inhabitants from different cultures and tribes.
and even though it is really really cold
I took time to visit her and show her my appreciation.
The water of the Danube is so clean, that in summer people will come here for swimming, there will be plenty of Cafes and Restaurants and it will be buzzing with life. It´s hard to imagine now, that everything is still frozen. ![]()
A little prayer to Danu ![]()
Great Mother Danu
I honor you and your name
You who created the rivers and the land
the source of life and fertility
You who hold the magic and wisdom of the land
May your blessings flow over my land and my paths
May I find your wisdom in the streams of life
and feel your power in the abundance of the earth.
I thank you for the gifts of nature, for life and creation.
Have a blessed, magical day! ![]()
