Today marks the feast of Bastet on the Kemetic Calendar. Bastet is the Egyptian Goddess of fertility, motherhood, the home and family. She is also the protector of cats.
You can learn more about Bastet and the reverence of cats from this post: Cat Deities
As today is the feast of Bastet, I thought it might be nice to share photos of our feline friends and to ask her to offer them protection, keep them safe, healthy, and happy.
Add a photo of your feline friends and share them with us.

I love this. W have been owned by cats for many years. We currently have five cats, but we were up to 13 at one point when we first took in Cali and her 4 kittens she had in the vacant lot next door. Not sure if I have photos of all on my phone but here are Cali, Aja, Rusty and Bonnie.
What a beautiful thread! The Feast of Bastet will definitely bring out all the Cat People.
My two little heartthrobs - Sage and Rose - were found by my husband under a county dumpster, in rural Georgia where we used to live. He was there to throw out some boxes and a literal hurricane was due to hit us in a few hours. He lured them out and hung around to see if there were more - obviously abandoned kittens - but it was just these two.
They were very tiny and sick, but we ran to our vet ahead of the storm and nursed them to health over the next several weeks:
I already had two cats at home and couldn’t keep these babies isolated in our bathroom, but the vet contacted a retired vet he knew who was actually wanting to adopt - so the happy ending is that a retired vet became their forever person - couldn’t have turned out better for little Rose and Sage.
And - here is my dear departed Jinx. This is a lith print that I made in the darkroom many years ago, which is why it has a funky kind of look. But it’s my favorite image of her - she lived to age 19:
@Feathertip What a heartwarming story. I am so happy that your husband was able to save those gorgeous little kitties and that you found someone who would truly look after them.
My tabby cat is my grey cat’s daughter. She was one of only two kittens. I didn’t plan to keep the kittens as the pregnancy was an accident when mum escaped before she was neutered. When they were born, the other was tiny and Luna (mum) would not feed her. My partner and I went into parent duty, feeding him every 2 hours for over a week.
We named him Jupiter in the hope that he would become “big and strong”. Unfortunately, he had aspiration and turned out he also had a cleft palate so was put to sleep. I was devastated after nursing him so long. After that, i couldnt part with the other kitten so ended up with two gorgeous feline companions.
Oh I’m sorry you were. I’m so sorry you lost him but you and your partner did a wonderful job of taking care of him despite his birth defect
Thank you. Turbo (5) is my husband’s cat and is a bit standoffish and jumpy. Kermit (2) is a character. Full of personality, loves to interact with us, has his own chair at the dinner table and loves to learn tricks. Newt (1) is my baby. He’s had a rough 6 months dealing with eye issues but he’s a sweet, loud purring, belly petting guy who hardly ever leaves my side.
When I first got a cat she got pregnant by accident and had five kittens. One was still born and one of the others was very small and weak too. We had to hand feed her for a while too. And do you know that little cat, who always stayed tiny, outlived her brothers and lived to be 21 years old.
Thank you, @Cosmic_Curiosity - and I’m so sorry about Jupiter. I know it’s small comfort but he did have his best life with you, as long as he was able. He knew he was loved and cared for, and you did that for him. Your two kitties are lucky to have you looking out for them!
This is my furry collection! Top is Dot, next down (helping me in my workroom) is Moose, and the adorable pair is Freya on the left and Lilith on the right. Dot and Moose are litter mates, as are Freya and Lilith.
