It’s so lovely to have you here! What a beautiful life you’ve built with your children and grandbabies.
Starting your path is such an exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) place to be, but you’re already doing it right just by showing up with curiosity and an open heart.
I’m Stephanie or as I’m known here in the forum, Eira of the Living Hearth, an eclectic witch from California. My practice is very home centered and green, I lean towards a lot of hearth magic, divination (tarot, runes, oracle, Lenormand), and weaving simple, everyday rituals into daily life.
If I could offer one gentle piece of advice: start simple. You don’t need a lot of tools right away. Spend time in nature, light a candle with intention, journal your thoughts, notice how you feel with different practices. Let your path grow naturally instead of trying to figure it all out at once.
You’re in a wonderful place to learn, ask questions, and explore at your own pace.
So glad you’re here, Kimberly.
Blessed Be.

Welcome, @kimberly6 and Merry Meet! We’re glad you’re here.
North Carolina is a beautiful state! I’m Feathertip, from SE Michigan. I’m a lifelong Pagan. I work with Nature and stay close to all her critters. I love growing and working with herbs, and I find magick in every day life. I practice Yogic meditation and use Lenormand cards for divination.
Our beautiful @Eira_of_the_Living_Hearth has given you very good advice: don’t concern yourself with buying tools and such at the beginning. Your magickal self will be all you need for now. Take a look around the site and join in the discussions here in the forum - see what interests you. We all practice in a way that’s unique to ourselves, and we support each other.
You’ll find your way! Enjoy the journey, lovely.

Welcome @kimberly6!
There is so much to learn when one is new to the craft, that I would suggest focusing on books or the internet rather than on collecting all the tools. You will find that some things will be easier or better connected to your lifestyle than others. Some will be easier for you to find in your location than others- it is harder to get rosemary to cook with at a grocery store in my area because the plants grow so easily in our climate. Follow your interests. Let the tools come to you. You’ll know when it just feels “right” to have that tool for that certain activity- like the right brush shape to clean the sink or tub. That way, you can focus on style and depth of connection- for example, my altar tools are mostly unicorns. I did not find them all at once. Some items are hand made for lack of availability.
Now that you have met some of us, let me call your attention to what they say about their interests. Each interest has its own tools, and some interests do not use the same stuff, so if you collect all the things you are just learning from, you might not have funds for the ones which work best for you in your own life.
Some subjects cannot be worked without a certain tool. Lenormand and Tarot require cards, but some of us collect so many wonderful decks! Start such things slowly to learn the basics. The collections and favorites can come later.
Keep track of what you try. Write down details. Keep them! You can look back later and see that one group of ideas works slowly, another doesn’t work at all for you, and a third works quickly. Such patterns can be used to its best effect as needed, later when you know more. In the early days, sometimes things happen so quickly that it’s easy to forget. Mistakes are the way we learn, so be not afraid, as long as you choose to learn from them.
I hope this helps!
