What are some places that you highly recommend? Not even just metaphysical, but what are some good restaurants? Good mundane shops? I’m also trying to save up for the trip. What are some good ideas for deity perfumes? I want to cater mainly to the Greek pantheon, but I also want to learn more. I am wanting to learn more about other deities.
I’m not a voodoo/hoodoo practitioner, nor do I want to profit off of cultures I am unaffiliated with. I want to educate myself and help myself save up for multiple trips. I also have a redbubble account where I make witchy merchandise with political messaging. Here it is, The Bi Witch Shop | Redbubble
I am also planning on selling the perfumes on paypal. It was originally for decluttering, which I have multiple sites for that.
Sorry, I’ve never been to Salem, but it sounds like lots of fun! The only thing I really know is that Laurie Cabot is like the Witch Queen of Salem, unofficially. When are you going? Because I know that around Samhain it’s going to be WAY crowded with every lookie-loo in the area going there. It might be best to wait until the off-season.
I haven’t been to Salem in a few years, and the last time I was there was on Halloween - we had park 2 miles away and walk to main street. Luckily, outside of October it’s much more peaceful (and easier to get in and around town!). I wrote a post a few years ago highlighting some key spots that are popular to visit:
To be entirely honest, two of my favorite things to do are wander up and down main street/ along the waterfront - there are so many cute stores (both witchy, piratey, and mundane!). I also really like the Peabody Essex Museum and the Yin Yu Tang house. It’s a great place to enjoy some art.
To craft, or to buy in Salem? I don’t know of any perfume stores in Salem off the top of my head (although I remember some selling incense and essential oils). If you’re looking to craft deity blends, there are a bunch of recipes around the site.
I camped in the National Park when I was there. Was surprised by professional fireworks on my birthday, August 14th, a day which is usually forgotten by the rest of the world.
After the fireworks, I noticed an overgrown hill and decided to explore. It turned out to be a circular enclosure. In the center was a bonfire with witches celebrating! I stopped in respectful silence to add my meditations to theirs. It may have been unheard of and invasive of their privacy, but I had been taught to attend any and all religious and spiritual gatherings when noticed.
The restaurant on the park grounds had the most delicious scallops! We had a lot of rain the week I stayed there, so I felt stuck.
Since I don’t drive, I didn’t go out much, though I did go through the museum and visit Laurie Cabot’s store. There was a magical surprise in the bag when I bought a mini tarot set and some books!
One thing I missed and was sad about was the re-enactment area. I always enjoyed when people made history come alive.
All honor to Giles Corey for standing up for the innocent!
I sent blessings to your protective sigil. I like the spell! Didn’t dig very far into your site quite yet. Do you have a flag for an ace?
I visited Salem many years ago in the month of August. It was bustling but not crazy busy like October. Theres so much to see and do. For history: The Salem Witch Museum, Gallows Hill, the House of Seven Gables. For shopping: SOooo many witchy shops to choose from. I spent half a day just browsing in a shop of tarot decks for sale. Laurie Cabot, the official witch of Salem is connected with the Enchanted Shop ( or Enchantments ?, I forget). To my delight, she was in the shop the day I visited and I was able to say a quck hello. The line was very long. Check the schedule for author Matt Auryn to see if he will be in Salem while you are there. Haunted happenings in Salem is another way to see what will be going on in September. There are tours now of sites where the movie Hocus Pocus was filmed and the city has a statue of Elizabeth Montgomery- Samantha on BeWitched - which wasnt there when I went. I stayed in Peabody. The Peabody-Essex museum was pretty good and we ate more than once at a restaurant called Capone’s ( hope its still in business ). Enjoy your trip ! ☆
