My husband is interested in learning witchcraft, specifically he wants to learn about Green Witches. He’s into wood, herbs, plants, wild animals, that kind of stuff. What is a good book on thuis topic that also covers a little bit of general witchcraft basics?
That’s awesome that your husband is also into green witchcraft, and it’s kind of you to help him find resources!
It’s in virtual form, but perhaps you might share the Green Witchcraft Course here on Spells8 with him? It’s designed for beginners and gives an introduction before going into a deeper dive of some common magickal plants and their properties.
In terms of books, I’m going to put in a fourth vote for The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. It’s one of my favorite witchcraft books, too! I really like how the book takes an individualized approach (as opposed to locking into one tradition) and encourages you to build your own personalized green practice.
I also really like The Heirloom Gardener by John Forti, but that takes a more general herbalist stance (rather than witchcraft) and is very localized to New England. I’d suggest finding herbal books written by local herbalists in your area - they have a lot of wisdom to help connect you to the land right around you!
Good luck to you and your husband with your studies. Blessed be!
I have to say that the best green witch book (for me) is not really classified as a “witch” book, but encompasses everything a green witch really is. That book is “Braiding Sweetgrass” by by Robin Wall Kimmerer
1000% agree with you here! I adore the book and her. I listened to the audiobook but by the second chapter, I knew I had to own a hard copy of the book. It’s been a wonderful resource for me at a time when I was looking for support and confirmation on my path. I have The Serviceberry which she alse wrote but haven’t read it yet.
