Cook Time: 3 hrs
Total Time: 3 hrs 3 mins
Servings: 12 servings
Ingredients:
4 cups heavy cream
4 cups whole milk
16 ounces white chocolate chips
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
green food coloring
yellow food coloring
Directions:
Add the heavy cream, milk, chocolate chips, condensed milk, and vanilla, stir gently to combine.
Cook on low heat for 2-3 hours. Make sure to stir every 30 minutes or so, or the chocolate will burn on the bottom.
Next, add the green and yellow food coloring to reach your desired Grinch shade.
Then stir well and ladle up. You can keep it on the warm setting for around 3 hours.
Notes:
Storing Leftovers:
Refrigerate any of the leftovers you have by placing them in an airtight container. Just make sure that before you pour and reheat, you need to stir, as it can separate a bit once it sits and cools down in the fridge.
You can warm up in the microwave, slow cooker, or in a pan on the stovetop. Just heat on low so it slowly warms up.
FAQs:
Can I turn this into a boozy Grinch hot chocolate recipe?
Yes, simply make the hot chocolate as directed. Then, once you pour into a glass,s add our alcohol of choice. RumChata, bourbon, whiskey, etc. Any type of alcohol works. Add a shot or make it extra strong and add a double shot.
Can I make this hot chocolate on the stovetop?
Use low heat and add the ingredients to a pot on the stovetop. Then heat on low and allow the mixture to heat up and stir often to prevent the chocolate from burning. Once the chocolate is fully melted and the ingredients are well incorporated, add food coloring. Then serve up in a mug and enjoy.
Does this hot chocolate crockpot recipe double?
Yes, you can double the recipe if you want to make a larger batch. Just ensure you do not fill the slow cooker more than 2/3rds the way full. Otherwise, it can affect the heating of the mixture. If you don’t have a large enough crockpot, you can use two crockpots instead.
Can I use white chocolate bars instead of white chocolate chips?
Of course! Go right ahead and reach for a chocolate bar if you prefer. Ghirardelli is a great chocolate for this recipe. Just roughly chop the chocolate before you add it to the slow cooker. Then heat up the same way as you would chocolate chips.
How long should I cook it in the crockpot?
Typically, you will only heat the hot chocolate for 1-2 hours or until it is well-melted and mixed well. You are essentially just wanting to warm the ingredients up, and then once that is done, it is ready to pour into glasses and serve.
Variations To the Recipe:
Add 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract for a mint-flavored hot chocolate.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of any flavored extract of choice. Raspberry, orange, rum, etc.
Mix in crushed peppermint candies and let them melt down for a minty twist to the drink.
Add a shot of peppermint schnapps to each glass or even RumChata to create a boozy hot chocolate for adults.
Use chopped white chocolate bars instead of white chocolate chips.
Drizzle in some caramel sauce at the end to give the hot chocolate mix a caramel flavor.
Stir in 2 tablespoons of peanut butter for a nutty hot chocolate.
Feel free to change up the color of the food coloring you use to alter the coloring of the drink.
Use coconut milk instead of heavy cream for a coconut-flavored hot chocolate. You could even rim the glass in toasted coconut flakes.
Reach for dairy-free ingredients if you want a dairy-free Grinch hot chocolate recipe.
Decorate the top of the drink any way you want. I loved the sprinkles, but feel free to change the look.
