Earth Day comes around every April 22nd to remind us about the wonderful place we call home. For witches and practitioners who follow a nature-based practice, the Earth is both an essential part of our mundane lives and the heart of our magickal practice. She is truly something to appreciate, honor, and celebrate!
Want to cast something special for Earth Day, but aren’t sure what? You’re in the right place! There is a wonderful collection of spells for the Earth, working with the Earth element, and connecting with nature here at Spells8. I’ve gathered just a small sampling here in this post. If you’re looking for a magickal way to celebrate the day, consider using or adapting one of these spells (You can also scroll down to the comments to see what others have shared)

Feel free to share with your fellow coven members in the comments.
I was going to make an Earth Day tarot spread, but I got sidetracked with a deep dive into a different topic for a post for this Thursday’s edition of the Spells8 newsletter … long story short, the Earth spread is unfinished
Instead, I’d like to share this Green Witch prayer that I really like. It is by Ann Murphy-Hiscock from her book The Green Witch.
Lord and Lady,
Spirits of Nature
Elements around me,
Bless me as I move through the world today.
May I bring joy and tranquility to every life I touch.
May my actions bring only harmony to the world.
May I heal pain and soothe anger,
May I create joy and balance as I walk my path.
Support me and guide me, spirits of Nature,
This day and all days ahead of me.
This I ask of you, as a green witch,
And thank you for your many blessings.
I think I’m going to do that Prayer for the Healing of Mother Earth tomorrow, and add that prayer to my daily prayers! It’s wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
This day, I offer our planet a hug and my deepest care. I empower Earth to heal and be strong. Many things have been buried in hopes of filtering and repowering. Much has been dug up in the effort to live a better life.
The lawn under the trees was waterlogged from yesterday’s rain, but at least the rains had moved on, so I was able to do my Earth Day ritual and Invocation to Gaia on the patio.
I was trying to think of something for Earth Day and my coffee subscription people sent a link to a HUGE treatise on taking care of Mother Earth. It was all about using coffee plants responsibly. So… a big advertisement but still interesting. It was 36 screens long.
This is awesome! I see the very first paragraph here is about shade-grown coffee - I’m all over this. For years, I bought shade grown coffee though the American Birding Association. Shade grown coffee is better for the coffee plants and also provides habitat for migrating songbirds. They discontinued a few of my favorites so I’ve navigated to other small producers. I should check them out again. These producers all need our support!
I brought the Morning Glory seedlings upstairs permanently - they’re officially done with the grow lights. They’ll be fine here until I take them outside and plant them.
There are 2 basil plants, 2 oregano, and 2 parsley. Still need more, but the nursery didn’t have a lot of stock yet. It’s still a tad early for herbs in my part of the world - I was happy to get these in time for Earth Day.
Oh wow! Pretty lawn! That looks so nice and quiet.
Just what little I saw from that advertisement makes me wish I drank coffee. But man, I’m glad it was an email. If it were a real advertisement, how many trees would have it killed?
WOW! You had a great Earth Day it looks like! What pretty plants!
I mainly did my ritual this morning and opened the windows, even though it was chilly. I thought about going outside while Sally was here, but they were mowing the lawn, and I didn’t want to get in the way. So, pffft.
We had a partly sunny 80°F. I was able to sit outside for about 15 minutes. Above a children’s play area, house finches raced back and forth to feed hatchlings who were making a lot of noise. Precious, though unseen. A male sang close behind me.
The second I sat down on my usual sandstone boulder along the sidewalk, a dove fluttered down into the raised beds across from me for a chat. I knew it had a family above someone’s patio: I’d watched it collecting on an earlier visit, so I asked how it’s family was doing. It came closer, pointing at me with its beak. I told the bird I was too tired and it was safe. A neighbor walking her dog interrupted our conversation, but it was good to talk with a bird.
Thank you! I think I’ve had that wrought iron cart for about 30 years - it goes where I go.
I’m glad you pointed out your wind chimes - I missed them before. I’m sorry the lawn was waterlogged, but your set-up on the patio looks lovely! The grass looks lush from the rain.
Thank you love! I had to listen to some mowers too for awhile - the day was pretty and that brings out the landscapers. Thankfully the noise pollution didn’t last too long.
How lovely! It sounds like you had a nice encounter with the dove, too.
Happy Earth Day all!
I live in the southern hemisphere in Queensland Australia. I love harmonising myself with the energy of nature and working closely with the environment and its gifts to improve the well-being of my body, mind and spirit. I ground daily and get outside as much as possible. I love gardening and love herbs especially for cooking. One thing I think is important is getting to know your local environment around you. Especially for us in the southern hemisphere as everything relates to the northern hemisphere and its environment.
I thought I would pull out all witchy books from my library that relate to nature and green witchcraft and was surprised at how many I had. So now I want to read over a few of them.
