Happy Summer from the South

My magnolia trees are blooming! Oh how I wish you could smell them! Between the magnolias and the gardenias… it smells divine!

So pretty! I wish smell-a-vision was a thing for things like this. Although my Texas allergies are currently kicking my butt and I can’t really smell anything.

Been enjoying the magnolias while visiting family here in Georgia as well. They are wonderful!

So pretty! :pink_heart:

We have tiny little magnolia here and it didn’t have many blossoms. The wisteria is in bloom now, though, and it’s awesome! I keep meaning to take some pics.

Enjoy the season of bountiful blossoms! :bouquet: :grinning:

Ooh! I enjoy seeing pics of everyone’s flowers. Our blooming season is done already, too short to fully engage, though the desert willows ought to be starting soon to feed the hummingbirds.

That sounds absolutely lovely  :deciduous_tree: :bird:

Desert Willow

Doesn’t look like much from afar- smallish tree can be straggly enough to catch whatever us blowing in the wind.

It blooms to feed local hummingbirds

Pink

White with buds

There is also a darker red variety, but it’s not on our property.

The deep throats remind me of snapdragons.

I don’t think they are related to the salicin producers, so not a true willow, but the inner bark has the same watermelon flavor, so I could be wrong. The seed pods are long cigars full of feathery seeds which look like flat snitches. Most of the brown leaf like things in these pics are the remains of the seed pods from last year.

Thanks @Satans_Helper :purple_heart: We are expecting 100°F by the end of the week, and the winds have been taking down the flowers very quickly, so I wanted to get these out to y’all asap. Taken early morning, but still too hot to get out for long. It’s weather like this that makes me happy I have north facing windows!

I rarely see them. My eyes aren’t good enough to see across the drive anymore. One hummingbird lives in the ash tree outside my balcony. Once on a while, I can see a dark spot flitting around. Most of my comfort comes when I hear him sing each morning. I’m happy to greet him the same way I greet Albus each morning. He did visit my balcony one day, so I know he is green with a white belly and a small red spot on the back of his neck. Hummingbirds in this area are very territorial, so he and his family are alone, here. Another family lives by the trash bin, and a third lives in the courtyard. I didn’t see anyone by the swimming pool, but I’m not in that area in the early mornings yet.

You have a very lovely neighbor! He sounds quite friendly too. We don’t see hummingbirds very often around here - I think it’s so nice that you have so many of them nearby! :grinning:

One of my favorite videos on YouTube is the hummingbird pool party. It sounds like you enjoy seeing the little cuties too, so let me share it with you :handshake:

Awww! So cute! All they need are itty bitty floaties! LOL!

I remember when Adam Bird fell into the fountain. I heard him, so I was able to rescue him before his feathers got waterlogged. When I fished him out, he was floating- he just couldn’t fly out on his own. Wet feathers just don’t manipulate the air as well and are too heavy to provide the needed lift to propel a bird to safety.

That is such a cute thing to imagine :face_holding_back_tears: :bird: :ring_buoy: :sparkles:

Oh goodness! While I imagine a little water for a quick splish splash would be okay, it sounds like deeper water is cause for concern. Thank goodness you were able to save him!
