Happy Witch's Day!

So…I’ve seen a few references here and there to today, July 21, being Witch’s Day. I don’t know the origin or rationale behind this being the date, though. I’ve owned it on my calendar because we need a recognition day! I’ve also seen November 16 being observed as International Witches Day, which makes sense because of Hecate’s Night – but Hecate isn’t part of every witch’s practice. Do you know of a commonly accepted recognition day? Or is the whole point of being a witch NOT to have a recognition day? LOL

I see it listed on here 2024 Wiccan & Pagan Holiday Calendar – Spells8 but didn’t see it mentioned in the news of the week. Doing a cursory google search, I don’t see it being widely mentioned or observed, but there’s nothing to say you can celebrate it anyway and however you see fit!

As to commonly accepted recognized days, I’d have to say the big ones - Beltane, Summer and Winter Solstice, Samhain/Halloween

Interesting! It’s showing on two different magickal calenders I follow, and a Google Search shows a handful of sources listing it. At the same time, I also can’t find a set history or reason behind the holiday. My best guess is that a small group of people somewhere started celebrating it, and it spread - which is often how holidays begin, I suppose :joy:

All the more days to celebrate being witchy! In my eyes, every day is a good day to be Witch Day! :mage:

Seconding Artemisia - the “biggest” (in terms of most widely recognized) pagan holidays would be the Eight Sabbats. Four of the Sabbats are also astronomical occasions - two solstices and two equinoxes :sun:

Many other types of observation days raise awareness, celebrate differences, encourage tolerance and dispel misconceptions that might be in circulation among the general public. I’ve imagined something along those lines - whether it was writing a blog post, making a video, hosting a round table, giving a lecture or holding a workshop (for example).
