Hello there from NYC!

It’s a lovely day in NYC: breezy, a little cloudy, and not too hot.

Hello! I’m Ploxxie(boodle), and it is my greatest pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am a relative newcomer to witchcraft and always want to learn more.

Since I don’t really know anyone nearby who practices, I hoped to meet new folks like yourselves online. How long have you been a practicing witch? Is there anything in particular you do that makes your practice feel like it’s “yours?” What is the funniest moment you’ve ever had while working a spell, petitioning a deity, meditating, et cetera?

Have a delightful October! :jack_o_lantern::fallen_leaf::crescent_moon:

Hi, @Ploxxieboodle! I’m Amethyst from Southern West Virginia. Welcome to the forum! :infinite_roots:

Let’s see if I can answer some of your questions. I’ve been practicing for about five years, but I’ve considered myself a pagan since the early 2000s. Umm, I tend to bless my candles when I light them for the day during my morning devotionals, and that’s pretty unique. I think it comes from being an aqualyte when I was little in the Methodist Church.

I haven’t done anything particularly funny during a ritual. I save that for the rest of the time. I mean, I’ve tripped over my tongue, knocked over candles, and burped during prayers, things like that. But I think we’ve all done that.

I envy you for living in NYC. If I were to move anywhere when and if I ever win the lottery, it would be there, I think. Good food, libraries and museums, and Broadway. And I bet there’s like fifty or so local Witchy stores. All within a bus or subway ride!

The closest Witchy store to me out here in the boonies is like, sixty or so miles away. That’s if they are even open anymore. I make due with Amazon, but I’d love to be able to pick out crystals myself, you know?

But if you’re interested in meeting anyone local, I’d find your closest Witchy store and see if they have any lessons or meetings or anything. Never hurts to try!

Not that I’m not glad you’re here. I am! I just know that sometimes you wish to talk to someone face-to-face. Still, I’m looking forward to getting to know you!

Hi there, I feel I am a new witch but have been studing metaphysical topics and such for about 10 years. I live in a burb NE of the Dallas area. I do not believe is strict rules with my practice, if it doesn’t feel right or if I am nudged to do something a little different… I will do it. I know some have ridgid was of doing things… but I’m more of an intention girl. I love using the Lenormand system for divination as I found it so much easier than Tarot to learn. I love this coven because you can learn so much and everyone here is so welcoming. Blessings to you and yours!

Welcome, @Ploxxieboodle and Merry Meet! I’m Feathertip, in SE Michigan and I’ve been practicing more seriously for under a year, though I have felt witchy and grounded in nature my whole life.

I make my practice my own by simply staying with what feels right and true to me. Currently, my interests include Lenormand cards for divination and staying in tune with nature.

I don’t have a whole lot of religious beliefs with gods/goddesses, but I do have a whole lot of wonder. :sparkles: :night_with_stars:

I guess the funniest thing that happened to me was while trying to start a ritual, and getting myself mentally ready, one of my cats suddenly jumped up and right into my altar. Luckily I had not lit any candles yet so it was just a matter of picking things up, then removing the kitty and distracting her with treats in the kitchen before I got going.

Feel free to jump in anywhere and ask more questions while you learn your way around. I look forward to hearing more about your journey!

Blessings  :raising_hands: :feather:

Greetings from New Mexico!

We had a high of 77 and wind, today. This is the last of the warm weather. Tomorrow won’t hit 70.

I started in 1990. It was off and on at first. Breaks made me miss the magick, so it’s all good.

Lately, no. I just moved, so I’m still trying to get the apartment clean and organized. Usually, I work my spells based on experiences I had in my youth/ books I wrote. Thus, I have different beliefs and patterns than most around me. Happily, I still feel welcome in the forum, here.

I had been at a Native Pow Wow in Indiana, fairly early in my practice, and my mother caught a pic of a young man I thought I wanted to meet. I took the pic to work with me (working 24h, 3-4 days a week as a care taker). When I had a few minutes, I requested to be introduced to the man in the picture. A breeze blew the pic out of my hand and stuck it to my arm! I laughed and chided “You know what I mean.” On my next time off, I saw him at the mall. I didn’t know he lived in my area, since the pow wow was in another town.

Thanks for the questions. After a while, I don’t know what to say to introduce myself anymore. I am looking forward to learning from and with you.

Hi!

Welcome to Spells8. It is a great coven and I’m sure you will find lots of things to do and learn.

I’m Dan and I study belief systems. I’m currently into cards and a couple of the Pantheons. My path falls loosely under the Chaos umbrella.

How long have you been a practicing witch?

Not long in actual practice (going on a year) but I have had some of the wisps of my path in my mind for a long time. I’ve finally gotten the time to pursue them more.. and so I am.

Is there anything in particular you do that makes your practice feel like it’s “yours?”

The thing about the Chaos path is that it is unlikely I’ll find two people following it the same way. However, there is also a lot of match with others since Chaos often borrows… sometimes a lot. It is easy to think of my path as mine… and also easy to identify with others.

What is the funniest moment you’ve ever had

I’m assuming what was the funniest moment while working in my path (I have funny moments all the time - I tend to be a magnet for them ) I usually am pretty serious while practicing my craft although my SO asked what my bracelet meant at a cafe ( it is a stylized witch ladder done in tiger’s eye and clear quartz) . I explained it all and then leaned over and said “Look around, who do you think we ought to turn into a toad?”… just as the waiter walked up.

Jump in and enjoy Spells8!

Welcome to the coven @Ploxxieboodle ! It’s great to have you with us! I’ve been practicing many different aspects of the craft for 35+ years. I currently work with voodoo and divination. I love making voodoo dolls for myself and other people. In my divination I use tarot and lenormand cards. But my favorite divination tool is a spirit board.

Never had anything funny happen while practicing my craft. But I do have a funny experience with spirits. I live in a true haunted house. There is one spirit in our house that loves to cuddle at night and will occasionally pat my behind. lol

This is great group of practitioners. Feel free to jump into any conversation that interests you and never hesitate to ask questions.

Blessings :purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart:

Hello @Ploxxieboodle,

Welcome to the forum! I’m Bry, one of the moderators and an Eclectic Witch. It’s very nice to meet you

I’m happy to say you’ve found a great spot to connect with fellow practitioners! Everyone here walks their own unique magickal path, but it’s nice to have a space where we can gather, share notes and spells, and just hang out in a supportive environment. Please make yourself at home!

I studied religions in school and have followed a spiritual path that’s been kind of all over the place, but for witchcraft specifically, I suppose joining Spells8 about five years ago is a solid landmark. That being said, my practice and beliefs have changed a lot over the years. I imagine they will continue to shift as I continue to learn and grow - the evolution is one of the many exciting things about the Craft! :tree_of_life: :sparkles:

I think the beauty of the Craft is both in how unique but also how collective it is. I look at my favorite tarot deck, crystals, and tea cups, and these things are mine, but I also see others who use their own decks, crystals, or other tools and think that we all have a path that is special to us, but at the same time, many of us practice in similar ways. So, in my eyes, what I have here is “mine”, but magick is also “ours” - if that makes sense? Maybe I need more tea this morning

Thank you - wishing the same to you! Have a blessed Samhain season  :jack_o_lantern: :candle:

Look at all these warm welcomes! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Thank you for your replies! (I’m rolling up my sleeves and getting ready to type out responses; let’s go!)

I envy you for living in NYC. If I were to move anywhere when and if I ever win the lottery, it would be there, I think. Good food, libraries and museums, and Broadway. And I bet there’s like fifty or so local Witchy stores. All within a bus or subway ride!

@Amethyst This! One million percent this! I was born and raised in NYC and got incredibly spoiled from the surfeit of diverse opportunity I’ve had access to. I have tried living elsewhere and nothing comes close so far. The museums specifically are an incredible privilege.

I know some have ridgid was of doing things… but I’m more of an intention girl. I love using the Lenormand system for divination as I found it so much easier than Tarot to learn.

@marina I adore this! From my perspective, becoming less rigid is a sign of comfort within some practices, so my first inclination is to say you’re living the dream! I would love to branch into Lenormand. Tarot has been a comfort because of the foundational symbolism so far; there’s so much material that I can learn the baseline to become comfortable enough to solidify my own observations.

I don’t have a whole lot of religious beliefs with gods/goddesses, but I do have a whole lot of wonder.

@Feathertip And wonder is significantly harder to teach! That’s such an important perspective to maintain, and I love that you embrace it. (Please give your cats pats from me, especially when they want to “help” with the altar!)

Greetings from New Mexico! […] A breeze blew the pic out of my hand and stuck it to my arm! I laughed and chided “You know what I mean.”

@georgia New Mexico! My dad is in another one of the “Four Corners” states right now. I hope the cooler weather is a welcome change for you and yours and that you stay comfortable. Also: very much enjoying the world not only listening to you but interacting right back, and playfully at that! I’m glad that you and he got to meet!

I have funny moments all the time - I tend to be a magnet for them

@dan3 I am going to be so honest with you, the fact that you say this after introducing yourself as a Chaos practitioner just adds up. The math is mathing. Perhaps that is a misunderstanding of mine, but it seemed cute to think about. I am wheezing at the “they’re standing right behind me, aren’t they” moment with the waiter.

There is one spirit in our house that loves to cuddle at night and will occasionally pat my behind.

@Mystique Imagine hearing from the realtor “oh by the way, this house is haunted.” And you’re wondering like, oh it is like Hill House? Amityville? Nope: just a lonely soul who’s sometimes a low-key pervert. I hope they’re open to boundary-setting!

So, in my eyes, what I have here is “mine”, but magick is also “ours” - if that makes sense?

@BryWisteria There’s a content creator I follow for an entirely different interest of mine. He’s known for saying things like “it’s your game: put the stuff you like in it.” I think belief systems and practices that have the space to be deeply personal can be very beautiful in this way. Because yes, you made the quilt, but the scraps came from people and places and things you love and trust and want to remember forever.

Phew! I apologize for the late replies! Everyone here is so friendly: I look forward to getting to know you all better in time! :two_hearts:

No worries about that - there were a lot of replies! I appreciate the time you took to answer to everyone. Very nice of you!

Yes, we are a chatty, friendly bunch. I think our combined friendly natures are in fact our superpower as a Coven. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :sparkles: :feather:

I can imagine you got spoiled for the culture of New York. I know I mostly see the pretty or awful parts, depending on what Law and Order or CSI NY episode I watch, but just the thought of being able to get about any kind of food delivered at any time always seemed magical to me! LOL!

I love the idea of the Craft as a quilt, uniquely our own but lovingly built from pieces of things that are meaningful to us :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Beautifully said!

I’m seconding Feathertip, no apology needed! We all understand when life keeps us busy. There’s never any rush with replies!

Make yourself at home here, @Ploxxieboodle - blessed be! :two_hearts:

Greetings @Ploxxieboodle and I apologize for the late welcome!

My name is Kat, and I started practicing the craft in 1993. I practice nature magick with a bioregional focus, working closely with the natural world and drawing inspiration from plant and animal spirits. I’m drawn to herbalism, gardening, and various forms of divination - tarot, throwing bones, kipper and ogham.

We’re glad to have you here. :purple_heart: Make yourself comfortable, explore, and feel free to ask questions!:
