I’m obviously new here. Had the label of weird slapped on me by my mom, who was somewhat taken aback that I loved The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents more than Bonanza. Began dallying with tarot back in 1970 ( just turned 13) but didn’t take it seriously until the same time I went native (Pagan). Been ‘officially’ Pagan, rather eclectic path, since 1995. The last. oh, 15 years or so were devoted to ‘the career’ as it were. I’m retired now, and things have changed, oh, things have changed…Glad to be here.

A lot of people called me weird in my youth. Welcome to that club. I felt relieved when I first learned of the (at that time) amorphous “Sisters of the Wyrd.” It was then defined as a group of people who had special abilities which few could comprehend. There was finally a chance for me to fit in somewhere in life!

Many years later, I found this community and confirmed it. May you find what you seek, too! I’m glad you are here!

Welcome, @GrumpyCrone and Merry Meet! We’re glad you’re here. I was also called “weird” by my mom, and I’ll never know if it annoyed her that I took it as a compliment and was cheerful when she said it. :wink: Seems like there was a lot of that going around.

I’m Feathertip, from SE Michigan. I’m also a lifelong Pagan (though I had no words for it when I was growing up) in my Crone phase. I have a very Nature-oriented practice, stay in my garden a lot to keep close to my backyard non-human residents. :heart: I use Lenormand cards for divination, and practice Yogic meditation.

This site is huge, but hopefully you’ll find plenty here to study and entertain you along your journey. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions about anything. We’re all following our own unique paths here, and we support and encourage each other.

Welcome @GrumpyCrone!! Love the name! I am Shanna, pretty new to my journey still even though I am heading into my crone phase. I am also in Michigan and also very nature oriented right now. I am still figuring it all out and see where the journey takes me. I love this place because I love learning. There are so many resources here!! I am from a small village in Lancashire, England :united_kingdom:

I am a Hedge Witch and my divinations are the 5 Elements. I am drawn to the Moon in particular but also align with the Sun, Planets, Astrology, Crystals, Candle Magic, Oracle, Tarot, Anglo-Saxon/Runes, Angel Numbers, Lenormand, tending outdoor, indoor plants and growing herbs, garlic. I am learning about Tasseography and Ocean and Weather Magic. I write and create my own spells which is both exciting and rewarding

The word weird stems from the old english word wyrd referred to the inescapable forces of destiny. It was heavily tied to ancient mythology, where the Wyrd (or Norns) were supernatural goddesses who spun the threads of human fate. Only in the 19th century the meaning changed into “odd” or “bizarre”. (Sharing facts is my attempt to connect with people, which is rather difficult for me. :laughing: )

Hi, I´m Katharina, an art-witch and art therapist from Vienna, Austria! I´m practicing magick very much through art making! I love altar craft, candle making, poppet work, spell boxes, jars and all kinds of creative magic shenanignas. Working in my Book of Shadows is a big part of my practice. I love all things tarot and practice this art since many moons.

Don´t get me wrong, I absolutely dispise adults, especially the primary caretakers, calling children this, because it is very hurtful, it´s always used in degoratory ways and it is a way of othering them. There is nothing cool about it, and yes, of course I, too, was told that I was weird and strange and “not normal”.
As an adult I found that there is a magic in taking back those words, ownig them and reframing their meaning. And this is how I got into etymology. :laughing:
Today, when someone calls me weird, I´ll act all flattered like: “Aaawww, thank you!! You mean, it shows??..like it´s obvious? That´s so cool, because honestly I just wouldn´t want to be a totally unwhimsical, basic b*tch.”

I am fascinated. So did you like watching columbo, too? I used to watch Alfred Hitchcock when I had the air broadcasted tv satellite leaf thingy that you screw into the back of tv’s. Everything is different now that streaming is a thing, but I remember liking Columbo for sure. I was never thrilled to have to watch columbo or alfred, it was all they had on tv, but those were my choices that were decent. Ive always liked watching older tv shows. In 2004, I was in the 3rd grade, and was obsessed with threes company! My parents thought it was a little weird, as well as my friends, but what did they know? Pfft… obviously didn’t have good taste in comedy, that’s for sure. When john Ritter passed, my 10-11 year old heart was broken for sure. May he rest in peace.

Anyways, I apologize, I’m A Cajun creole. That’s my excuse for rambling on and on about literally nothing. :laughing:

You’ve found yourself in a very mighty fine online coven! The members are just breathtakingly sweet and friendly! You will feel like you’ve been a family friend of theirs all your life soon enough; that’s how hospitable they are!

So when you mention devoted to a career, were you implying that being an eclectic pagan practitioner was your career? Or am I misunderstanding? If that was your career, that’s pretty gnarly! I love people who can make a career out of something they truly love! They’re so inspirational!

What led you to paganism if you don’t mind me asking?

Hahaha!!

I am sorry that all of you were treated like that as kids. That breaks my heart! We have always used “weird” as a compliment. Even as a kid I can remember wanting to be weirder! Hahaha! I would think of ways to set me apart from the crowd. My mom said things like “who even notices the normal people? Everyone will notice your light”.
In my house as an adult with my own kids, we also celebrate “weird”. Like celebrate it hard. We call anyone that is an “unwhimsical, basic b**ch” a muggle. But we may be changing that verbiage now! Thanks for the laugh!!

I was a social worker (insert mental health case manager, developmental disabilities case manager, child welfare specialist, QMHP/QIDP…you get the drift) for 40 years. I can attest to the high level of burnout in the social services field…it can be brutal. I’ve not retired as a Pagan (hee!) although once upon a time, my third (and final) husband and I had a side business working the spirit fairs while I worked for ‘the guv’ment’. It was fun until it wasn’t, as most things tend to be in my experience. What led me here? I think I’ve always been here. That’s too long a story to go into; suffice to say, it’s been ‘a long strange trip’ but it’s hardly dull. Good to meet ya!!!

West Virginia (and Virginia) has got to be one of the best places on the planet to ‘feel the vibes’ and it’s lovely there! Yeah, ‘CRONE’ is a milestone and I have my days when I sure as heck wish I was late 40s again instead of exceedingly late 60s, but all in all, it’s not too bad. Good to meet you!!!

Hey, Georgia! Wow, so many folks here, living in areas of the country I wish I lived in! LOL, when I was in high school (I think 10th grade, but I can’t be sure…failing memory!!) I was introduced to ‘Macbeth’ and suddenly I suspected my mother was a bit of a prophet…LOL! Bless her heart; apparently her mother was as witchy as any good Southern Baptist woman could be and I always reminded my mom of her mom…ah, family dynamics! Anyway, good to meet you and I’m looking forward to diving into the archives here!
