How do you clean your deity statues?

This isn’t so much a question as a discussion. I have a new Brigid statue and I want to keep Her clean. I’ve just been dusting her but I got to thinking, should I be doing it differently? Blessing the Swifter wipe? Using moon water?

So I’m asking y’all to share how you dust your idols! Especially when they have all sorts of cracks and crevices. Picture of my Brigid Statue following!

Hmm good question. I never really thought if I should do anything different, I just use my Swiffer. But my Gaia figurines don’t have a lot of nooks and crannies, so it seems to work okay.

When I get a new unicorn statuette, I run warm water for its bath. Sometimes I have to use an old toothbrush to get the dust out of the cracks. Then I use a soft towel to dry most of it. Of course, the cracks and internal crevices hold water, so I then let it sit to air dry up to 24 hours. Then I can cast my spells of protection on it, do any needed repairs or touch ups, or put it into its new home. When it comes time to move, I repeat the process before packing so I don’t take the dust of the old place with me. I save bubble wrap and box favorites together in a boot box so I know where to find them. That way unwrapping them feels like Christmas!

I “dust” mine using a soft paint brush. I then “dip” them into a bowl of water with natron (mines are Egyptian so I do this as a link to past rituals). I pat them dry with a soft cloth. However, caution is needed if adding things like salt to water as it can be abrasive, depending on what the statues are made of.

Many of my statues have nooks and crannies. I’ve tried an air duster but it doesn’t do well. And I don’t like the thought of dipping them in moon water, if only because I can’t fit enough water on my window sill to use for statues really. And I have no access to the outside really at night. At least, not safely.

That’s a good idea. I may do that. I just worry about my Brigid statue, since she’s painted. I don’t want the paint to rub off.

Ooh, good idea! I may do that. I can bless the pain brush!

Thanks, y’all!

I don’t have any statues, but I clean anything with crevices and stuff with either a duster or a can of compressed air. If you want, you can bless or charge the duster you use, but I don’t think it’s necessary at all :woman_shrugging:

I have quite a few. So yeah, I’m gonna bless my Swifter I guess. It seems wrong to run it all over Brigid and my other Gods and Goddess faces without saying something! LOL!

That’s totally valid! I’m sure with your wonderful writing, you’ll come up with a great blessing for your Swiffer!

Hmm, I wonder what rhymes with Swifter? Grifter? Nah, that won’t work. LOL!

I get a lot of dust for some reason in this apartment. And I have a black desk, so I can see it. Urgh.

A different kind of magic wand! :wand_tarot:

Personally I use a soft tooth brush and moon water, then pat them dry. This way you are sure to get all the nooks and crannies. Don’t want to miss any dust bunnies hiding!

I’m hesitant to use water on my Brigid statue. It’s painted and I don’t want to mess up the paint. But I do like that idea for my others, thank you!

Then just use a dry\damp washcloth made from cotton. You can also use cotton balls and q-tips to get in the nooks and crannies. Test with the dry\damp cloth in an inconspicuous area to test if paint will come off. It shouldn’t. The paint should be treated.

I mean to clean dust or debris I’d just do what ur doing.its not gonna offend or hurt anything. But before I meditate or practice I like to ring a bell over everything in my altar space to clear any energies even if the energy maybe ur own negativity residue.or smoke cleanse. I often say anyone or anything that does not have my best interest in mind just leave. If smoke cleansing house. I will open the slider door or a window. And say all negativity whether residual, present, or being that does not serve my highest purpose must leave now. I say go through the holes in the screen and leave(i have cats so I cannot leave the door open open) I say it with conviction, confidence, and power.

I love the thought of not taking any old dust with you. Like leaving any filth behind. Non transference of what no longer serves you into your “new life”. We take what serves us and leave the rest behind.

Then the unwrapping is like a gift idea love that

I have cats too so, when I do a smudging I put them in a bedroom until im done with all but that room. When i’m done I close all up and do the room the cats were in behind a closed door and wide open window. I use sage and a very old native american chant/prayer that was given to me by a native friend. I know it works well, I can feel that the place is clean afterwards.

Good idea! I’ll have to remember that!

I usually use sound to cleanse my area. For one, it’s difficult for me to smoke cleanse while using a rollator. I can set the sage down on the seat of it, but the smoke doesn’t waft around enough.

The other thing is, I only have a door to the hallway, which is still in the building. Knowing my luck, any bad vibes would hang around in the hall and follow me back in.

This is when you hang protection charms, talisman anything inside your door so negative energy can’t follow you back in. Hang a Besom above your door. I have a Besom at my front door and a whisk broom with protective crystals inside each bedroom door that I made. The handles of all three are oak and the bristles are white Birch. To tie them together I used Jute. I have ribbons and feathers decorating them. Plus I have many crystals sitting around. So, make everything, cleanse your home then hang them up.

See, I live in a small apartment with a narrow entrance. Couldn’t fit a broom up there if I wanted to. I might a cinnamon broom, but I haven’t found one around here, and the ones online are outrageously expensive.

I do have witch bells on my door, and a little gargoyle, but that’s all I have room for, unfortunately.

Thanks for the idea though!
