That sounds like a smart and sustainable way to manage replies! :blush:

It’s a pleasure. Sending love, light, and plenty more positive energy your way! :hugs: :heart:

I’m so glad to meet you and your story gives me quivers because life can be relentless sometimes! Just today I saw a caterpillar on my bag :briefcase:!
@Irenebean my name is @Jeannie1 and I am feeling like you would appreciate this last tea message from our coven meditation session May 7 and just had a bird trapped in my room and it kind of felt like there was no way out for the bird and I was afraid it was gonna die, but it didn’t. It landed on its 2 feet finally landed on a cord from my projector for the TV. It’s a reminder to stay grounded.It took awhile and it’s like it was so scared it just couldn’t see anything in front of him! But he stayed centered. Remember to do meditation and affirmations and do your homework! Pray :folded_hands:t4: and I will

Hecate :hekate_wheel: she has symbolism of a bird of owl and owls are one of the smartest birds, and they can see all around them. They use all their senses and like us you know if we do our meditation and we can become like an owl ! Be wise use your senses you six sense! I like to believe I have my third eye always watching from behind my head! Owls can move their head all around! They can see in the dark and are not afraid of the dark. Be wise be careful they are calm if you notice they don’t move. They use their intuition and seek guidance which you are doing. They have a watchful eye :eye: they are in-tuned with their surroundings like you said you are to maybe this is why you feel a Clair-sentience just a knowing this owl symbol is for you!

Technically, I didn’t send this message a while back ago and I apologize. I think I was just not sure if I should send it. Sometimes I do that I had a horrible thing happened to me and I really don’t wanna say what happened because it’s too heartbreaking for anyone to hear so I’ll try my best not to interfere with your feelings but soon afterwards I was listening and heard the owl in plain day! It doesn’t always mean death this time it was my blessed Hecate talking to me through my own symbols I heard! It was was really surprising but it completely comforts me she provided me protection and her is a full moon tonight I just have a black candle burning and some tea :teapot:
I’m praying for you dear one! I know it seems as though this life can like a painful eternity but try to within and remember your never alone! Sending you blessings and hugs :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: and angelic energy!

Hello dear friend, that I’ve never met before!

I’m Kristina, howdy :smiley:

Very few creatures carry a reputation as dualistic as the owl. In my personal opinion, and according to my research over the years, the owl is rarely just a bird that hoots and spins its head all the way around.. It is a living bridge between the seen and unseen worlds.

Depending on the culture or esoteric path you look at, the owl is either a benevolent guide of ultimate wisdom or a chilling omen of SYMBOLIC death.

its been speculated that they are the messenger between the seen and unseen, or the watcher of the veil..

Some occultist have referenced the owl to be the master of darkness. It represents clairvoyance, psychic sight, and the capacity to navigate the “dark night of the soul” or the subconscious mind, as well as being the guardians of Hidden Knowledge: The owl doesn’t just represent standard intellect; it represents the literal meaning of occult.. HIDDEN KNOWLEDGE. It is the keeper of secrets, ancient mysteries, and forbidden wisdom.

Owls can stare without blinking, which has led to their symbolic association with the animalistic “watcher” —a consciousness that watches the universe unfold without judgment.

In ancient mythology, the split personality of owl symbolism largely stems from two distinct ancient perspectives from

The Greek and Roman POV: Intellectual Wisdom..

In ancient Greece, the owl was the sacred companion of Athena (and later the Roman Minerva), the goddess of wisdom, strategy, and war.

An owl perched on Athena’s shoulder allowed her to see the full, objective truth.

In this context, the owl represents reason, high intellect, scholarship, and sharp discernment.

The Roman and Mesoamerican Pov: Omens of Death

Conversely, Romans also feared the owl, believing that a hooting owl on a rooftop predicted a nearby death (legend says the deaths of Julius Caesar and Augustus were foretold this way).

In Aztec and Mayan mythology, the owl was a companion to the lords of the underworld, symbolizing destruction, transformation, and psychic transitions.

Its also seen as a spiritual totem..

In modern spirituality and core shamanism, encountering an owl or identifying with it as a spirit animal brings a specific set of prompts for personal growth.. The owl is the ultimate “BS detector.” If the owl is showing up in your life, it is often a spiritual nudge to look past someone’s facades, read between the lines, and trust your intuition over appearances & words. Maybe not everything is as what it seems.

Like I said, it signifies symbolic death—the ending of a life phase, the shedding of old habits, or a major spiritual rebirth.

Comfort in Solitude: Owls are solitary hunters. Spiritually, they encourage finding peace in isolation, embracing quiet introspection, and building strength away from the noise of the crowd.

A Note on Cultural Differences: It is worth noting that in many Native American traditions (such as the Apache, Navajo, and Cherokee), the owl is approached with immense caution and respect, often associated with ghosts, the spirits of the deceased, or a warning of spiritual imbalance. In contrast, Hinduism associates the white owl with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, viewing it as a bringer of good fortune.

One time, my momma saved an owl from getting hit by another vehicle (the vehicle in front of her hit it) and she saved it. Man owls are so gorgeous in person. They really really are. I adore them, honestly.

Also, I want to point out that all of these speculations, spiritually, can all be true at once… That’s just MY own opinion though…

Who knows? Maybe a deceased loved one is trying to contact you to tell you to see through the facade of being down in the dumps, and that you’ll soon find yourself in wealth, good luck, and prosperity!

@SuckOnMySunshine great post to read thank you for sharing. I knew some of symbolism of The Owl :owl: as a between the worlds being a Hedge Witch as the Owl serves as a powerful nocturnal guide and messenger for my magic. It is always good to learn other cultures meanings of the Owl. I was left my Nan’s Owl Brooch which I use in my craft.

Blessings to you :full_moon::dotted_six_pointed_star::green_heart:

@Moonbeam

Well, that’s a mighty fine heirloom, I’m sure of it!

I really adore owls. They’re so sweet. And theyre so visually majestic..

May I see your brooch? If you do not want to share, I respect that, but I just GOT TO admire it.

@Irenebean I think I remember you when you were here before. I’m so sorry to hear that you are going through hard times. I don’t have anything to add to the wonderful advice and information my witch sisters have offered you here, but I can add my support and will keep you in my prayers, sending light and love your way.

I don’t know much about the symbolism of owls, but I am a great fan. Even here in the Houston suburbs, we still hear them hooting at night and it always gives me a thrill and I feel that they are watching over me and keeping me safe.

Hi all, first and foremost, thank you so very much for your wonderful insights on the symbolic meanings of owls showing up in your life! You l are the kindest group of people I’ve met in a long time (I’ve had an unusually - for me - difficult time making friends in FL, which is actually a common issue for many women who move here). :hugs: I’m going to respond to each and every one of you, I promise! But first…

The more I read the symbolism of owls, the more I absolutely LOVE the owl’s presence in my life. I feel that several of the symbolic meanings are extremely relevant to my current circumstances as well as my deceased grandmother and grandfather, who took care of basically everyone in my family while living. I personally feel that the owl “sightings” (never owls in real life, always in pictures or videos or TV shows and one time a movie) are a sign from them that they’re protecting me and watching over me, and that they’re going to ensure I won’t lose my life here. The meaning of owls as beings that aren’t afraid of the dark also resonates deeply and powerfully with me. I’m truly in my own “dark night of the soul” at the moment…yet, despite the fear and pain, I KNOW that I’ve always triumphed over previous “dark nights of the soul.” I’ve got to keep reminding myself of that. Also, the owl as a solitary figure resonates with me, as I have no friends left here. They all either treated me poorly or ghosted me - again, a common occurrence here for women, unfortunately. I feel that owl is encouraging me to embrace this time of solitude to grow stronger within myself and to get out there and enjoy myself alone. And I have! I’ve had some really lovely solo outings and let me tell you, they helped heal some of the pain I’ve been in.

Finally, I want to share a deeply spiritual experience I had recently, on a walk on my favorite walking route, which is alongside the water. It’s a gorgeous spot and I’ve seen dolphins briefly lift their blow hole, dorsal fin and tail above the water, but that’s it. I knew that sometimes a pod of dolphins would swim right up to the sea wall, because they trap tiny fish that way and then consume then. But in 5 years of living here, I’d never seen that. Well, guess what? A few weeks ago, I finally did see it! And it was truly one of the best experiences of my entire life. It was transformative. A pod of maybe 5 to 8 dolphins were RIGHT BELOW MY FEET!!! I could see every detail to their adorable faces and bodies. I’ve never gotten that close to a dolphin before. And for some reason, this time they kept lifting their heads above the water and they would also occasionally jump up, spin in the air and land on their backs, splashing the water with their tails! It was MAGICAL and it went on for a good 15-20 minutes. The small group that gathered there was completely silent and fixated on the dolphins. No one spoke. No one scrolled on their phone. I’m not religious, but it was an absolutely sacred moment. I could FEEL everyone’s reverence and love for the dolphins. To this day, I feel such a deep sense of gratitude that the universe blessed me with that experience at the time I needed it most. And I try to remember that moment when I feel sad or scared or angry or hopeless. I don’t believe in coincidences. There was a reason why every single one of us at the shoreline that day saw the pod of dolphins. And it reminded me of what I’m fighting for, and why I’ll never give up on my life here.

I’m going to look on this site to see if there are any spirit animals rituals, because I want to tune into owl to glean his wisdom and insight. Also, I remembered that I bought owl decor a couple years ago and forgot to put it back out after Xmas! I’ve named “him” Ollie, LOL, and set him on my dining room table where I work AND eat.

Hi Irene, oh what an amazing experience you had with the dolphins! Of course we’ve heard how friendly and fun loving they are, but you got to experience this up close! Yes, I agree you were blessed with a magical experience!

This is almost as magical as the dolphins! :dolphin: How wonderful to be able to share such a moment with others.

So happy this happened for you (not to you, but FOR you!) when your spirit was so low. :raising_hands: Blessings!

What a magical experience for you!

Oh my gosh, I love the story of the bird so much! The fact that it was finally able to figure a way out once it calmed down is so meaningful to me…because I developed a unhealthy habit a long time ago of panic spiraling when fear of a bad outcome gets the best of me. If I can just stay calm, I can find a way out.

And I love the bit about owls not fearing the dark so inspiring and relevant to my situation! Thank you for sharing these insights and the insights about the goddesses! I’m going to read up on all of it. :blush:

Hi, Kristina! So nice to meet you! Your insights about owl symbolism are incredibly helpful and definitely strike a chord with me! I agree, it can mean more than once thing simultaneously. For me, I believe my owl sightings are a message of protection from my grandparents who’ve passed on as well as guidance as I navigate the darkness of my current dark night of the soul. I’m starting to fall in love with owls and I want to find some rituals that can help me tap into owl’s wisdom and strengthen the connection I feel to owl.

@SuckOnMySunshine my Nana was born in 1903 and my Grandad who I never met passed in 1945. The brooch was given to her by my Grandad and when my Nana passed in 1993 she left me it. I can remember admiring it when I was little and I feel so blessed that she left it to me. I now realise that she left for a purpose as a guide me when I cross the Hedge :owl::waning_gibbous_moon::green_heart:

@Irenebean thank you sharing your lovely experiences. I can sense from your initial post that some weight has been lifted. When love ones pass and if you were very close they still try to communicate by all different ways some can be very subtle and others can be stronger. The Owl is one of their messages. It does not have to a real bird and they will keep repeating until you pick up on their message they are saying that they are watching and can see your pain. Spirt Owls act as guides through different phases of life, they appear when you need clarity, strength and symbolise a chapter you are going through. The Owl also reminds us to slow down, observe and trust what we feel beneath the surface and what you cannot see (for me a guide hedging).

I do have Mantras you can say to try to make a stronger connection

:dotted_six_pointed_star: I trust my intuition

:dotted_six_pointed_star: I am guided by inner wisdom

:dotted_six_pointed_star: I honour both light and shadow

:dotted_six_pointed_star: I pause and listen before I act

:dotted_six_pointed_star: I can see clearly even in the dark

With regard to your sighting of the Dolphins near your home and with other people. This is another message of community, teamwork and shared joy, a period of healing and to foster stronger connections with loved ones - this again could be your grandparents reaching out or to embrace new opportunities for you. I think the way to go is with “The Owl”

Blessings to you Irene :owl::waning_gibbous_moon::green_heart:

@Moonbeam what a gorgeous treasure! :heart_eyes:

@Irenebean

Here’s some ways Google ai says you could do just that.

Connecting with the energy or spirit of the owl is a beautiful way to develop deep intuition, step into your personal sovereignty, and learn to navigate the hidden or “shadow” aspects of life. In folk magic and intuitive practices, owls are the ultimate keepers of secrets, silent observation, and nocturnal wisdom.

Connecting with them isn’t about grand, rigid ceremonies—it’s about matching their frequency of quiet focus, deep listening, and comfort with the dark.

Here are a few intuitive rituals you can practice to bring owl energy closer to your life:

1. The Vigil of Silent Observation (Night Meditation)

Owls are apex hunters not because they are the loudest, but because they are the quietest. They sit motionless, absorbing everything before they make a move.

  • The Setup: On a clear night—especially during a New Moon when the darkness is deepest—find a safe, quiet spot outside or by an open window. Turn off all artificial lights.

  • The Practice: Sit comfortably and close your eyes for a few minutes just to let your ears adjust. Open them and practice “soft focus”—instead of staring intently at one object, let your vision widen to take in the whole peripheral landscape.

  • The Intent: Spend 15–20 minutes completely silent. Do not look at a phone. Just listen to the layered sounds of the night, the wind, and the shadows. By stepping out of the noisy daytime mindset and into the quiet, receptive state of the night, you naturally align with the owl’s primary frequency.

2. Setting a Nocturnal Altar Space

Creating a dedicated physical anchor in your home invites that specific energy into your daily awareness.

  • Elements to Gather:

    • A dark cloth (black, deep purple, or midnight blue) to represent the night sky.

    • Imagery of owls (drawings, small statues, or even a printed picture that resonates with you). Note: In many places, keeping wild owl feathers is legally restricted under wildlife protection laws, so ethical replicas or artistic representations are best!

    • Crystals: Obsidian or black tourmaline for grounding in the dark; labradorite or moonstone for piercing through illusions and sparking intuition.

    • A single silver or white candle to represent moonlit clarity.

  • The Ritual: Light the candle during the evening hours. Sit with the space, state your intention clearly (“I open my senses to hidden wisdom and silent strength”), and allow the candle to burn safely while you meditate or write down your thoughts.

3. Developing “Owl Sight” through Dreamwork

Because owls see what is hidden in the dark, they are powerful allies for subconscious exploration and vivid dreaming.

  • The Ritual: Before bed, brew a simple cup of mugwort, chamomile, or lavender tea to relax the mind and open the intuitive centers.

  • The Charm: As you steep your tea, speak your intention over it. Hold a piece of labradorite or an owl symbol in your hands, visualizing a pair of steady, glowing owl eyes looking at you with deep calm.

  • The Petition: As you close your eyes to sleep, say a simple mental phrase like, “Show me what is hidden in the shadows. Grant me the sight to see through the dark.” Keep a journal by your bed to immediately write down any symbols, feelings, or animal presences that appear in your dreams.

An Intuitive Tip: If you ever hear an owl calling near your home at night, don’t rush to speak or mimic it. Simply stop, hold your hands over your heart or third eye, and just receive the sound. Let the vibration settle into your space as a natural blessing of awareness.

but aside from that ai stuff, you know what you could also do? I personally did this with my cousin that passed, except I didn’t utilize owls, I utilized dragonflies, but I digress;

You could go outside , night time is probably the best time to do it, and request out loud for your grandparents , either one of them or both, to come as an owl or owls, so you can see them.

When I did it, it was late at night, and I said out loud" cousin, if you’re watching over me, or are with me in spirit, plz come as a dragon fly so I can know when you’re with me"

Next day, swear to god, there was nothing but swarms of dragonflies, and they stayed until winter. so like a good 3-4 months, everyday, swarms of dragonflies were surrounding my house, inside and out.

Also! Lillith is associated with owls! Maybe it was her contacting you to work with you? Like I said all those things can be true at once! I don’t work with deities, but slot of people do, and to the best of my knowledge, you don’t go to a deity asking to work with it, they come to you. I could be wrong or misinformed, but to the best of my knowledge, that’s how it works, I heard. Don’t take my word for it. Maybe someone who does work with lillith on the forum could educate you better on this than I can, so hopefully someone who does work with lillith reads this and chimes in to spit their amazing knowledge on the matter and mechanics if it, and educates us both :sweat_smile:

Hi, Moonbeam, thank you for your lovely insights! I agree with everything you said! The more I learn about owl as a guide/symbol, the more connected I feel to its energy and the messages it has - especially the messages about overcoming fear of the dark periods in life. I’ve allowed fear to haunt me for most of my life, because in 8th grade, after enduring the beginning of verbal abuse from my father and stepmom, I decided that I was too hopeful/naive/happy and that in order to protect myself, I needed to expect the worst to happen always, so that I could “protect” myself from it. Only, as I’m sure you can guess, that never works. We ALL go through hard times and feel pain at times, it is inevitable, and I made my situation so much worse. I did it to myself and undoing the damage has been my greatest challenge. More difficult than stage 4 cancer, getting sober, etc. Truly! So, although the dark period I’m going through now SUCKS at times, I recognize that it’s necessary. The fear has ruled my life for long enough. The universe is telling me that in order to overcome my money issue, I must defeat the fear. And yes, you did indeed pick up on my calmer frame of mind compared to my original post! That’s deliberate. I’m using a “stop” technique my favorite therapist taught me back in 2013 to overcome and heal my self-loathing and rock bottom self esteem. Making the negative self-talk stop was incredibly difficult at times, but I stuck to it and persevered. I truly love myself now. So, I know it’ll work for my fear. It’s just hard to push through at times…but last week, I felt the shift beginning within me…slowly, for sure, but beginning nevertheless. It actually can work for anyone dealing with any issue!

These insights you shared are so incredibly helpful, thank you! I love your story about the dragonflies and have no doubt that they were your loved one convening with you! I’m so happy you got to experience that. :face_holding_back_tears: I’ve had a week of deep sadness about my work/money situation. The end date for my current contract role is rapidly approaching. In addition to the money issues ahead of me, I’m heartbroken because this is my perfect job and the best one I’ve ever had in literally every area. Plus, my boss and coworkers have expressed how well I’ve performed and how much they wish they could keep me full time. I’ve had bad bosses and bad jobs before, and the thought of going through that again is very painful. Along with the money stress, of course. But I continue to fend off the fear with my “stop” technique, so that’s progress. Earlier today, when I was feeling especially sad, I used your technique of calling upon my loved ones - my grandparents and my soul dog who passed last year. I asked them to please give me some sign of hope and a happy future. Then, when I was watching one of my TV shows a bit ago, guess what one of the characters mentioned? OWLS! I’ve watched nearly 4 seasons of this show, it has nothing to do with birds of any sort…and then suddenly, out of the blue, owls are mentioned. :face_holding_back_tears: I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that that was my sign from them. This time is still hard…I’m transparent about that…but I’ll stay strong and keep hope alive for happier days.
