Indigenous Peoples' Day 2025 đź©·

In the United States, today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day :tada: While it’s not a federal holiday, and not every state recognizes it, I feel that it’s important to take a moment and reflect on the Indigenous Peoples of the lands we live on.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an official city and state holiday in various localities in the United States that celebrates and honors Indigenous American peoples (Native Americans) and commemorates their histories and cultures. It is celebrated on the second Monday in October.

A lot of Western spiritual practice is drawn from the practices and understanding of the Native American Peoples. I feel like it’s important for use to at least reflect on our connection to the land, Native Americans, and our practices and coexistence with humanity as a whole.

I used to have a whole host of resources and people to follow on social media for Indigenous practices and information, but since leaving most social media platforms, I’ve lost my list :sob:

SO! If you have resources to share, please feel free to do so!

I just wanted to have a space to honor Native Americans, their history, and their contributions to the world we live in today :revolving_hearts:

Thank you so much for this post, @MeganB . I am fortunate to live in a state that recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ Day, via our Governor’s Proclamation in 2019.

Though it does remain a non-Federal holiday - I strongly believe it should be. I think we’re stronger and wiser for acknowledging all the wisdom of living close to and respecting the land, its plants and trees and animals.

I don’t personally have any social media resources to offer here, just wholehearted support and respect for those who were here before us. Thank you! :sparkles: :star: :feather:

You’re welcome! :pink_heart: One of the first things I do when I move to a new place is learn about the native people of that land.

Oh! That reminds me of a website you can use to find out more about the land you live on in regard to Indigenous Tribes! You just plug in your zipcode and it’ll tell you about the people native to your area.

It’s not? Everything is closed, here, as though it were. Banks are closed. No buses are running. I haven’t even had a Greyhound bus run past, so no pedestrians pass my windows. No trains, nothing. Even the sun is taking some time off, today. It seems such a quiet day. May the lives of the Indigenous be as peaceful! May they be well taken care of in all they do so their lives may be pleasant and fulfilling.

You’re welcome!

No, unfortunately it’s not  it’s up to each state or locality whether they recognize it or not. Everything is closed here where I am, too!
