Interview with my tarot deck

I got a printout freebie of a New Deck Interview from Rachel at Spellboundsociety.co. Sadly, I completely forgot to take a photo of this spread, but I did make a note of which cards I pulled for each question.

Since I am still so new to tarot, it would be good for me to have a go at. I used Decoding the Cards, rom WritualPlanner.com to decipher them, and then had a go at seeing how they answer the questions asked in each case.

  1. What do you want me to know about you?

I drew the Three of Pentacles Reversed.

Keywords: Working alone | Disharmony

The Reversal of the Three of Pentacles symbolizes a difficult situation in which conflicts, misunderstandings, and miscommunication have taken root. In this case, taking a step back to realign your goals is essential. Establishing a clear plan for each team member’s roles and responsibilities can help restore harmony and equilibrium within the group.

Additionally, the Three of Pentacles Reversed can indicate that you must adjust your expectations and be open to collaborating with others. We can often achieve more than we could on our own through working together.

Finally, the Three of Pentacles Reversed can indicate that you feel undervalued, or unappreciated in your current work situation. If this is the case, it may be time to look for more opportunities where you contributions can be valued and appreciated more meaningfully.

Eek - this sounds like the deck isn’t very happy with how we have been working together so far, and that I should adjust my expectations and reevaluate how much I put in to the partnership between us to bring it in to balance.

  1. Why have you come into my life?

I drew the Wheel of Fortune Reversed.

Keywords: Bad luck | Resisting change | End of a cycle

The Wheel of Fortune reversed can be difficult to interpret. It is often seen as an omen of bad luck, challenges and change that we may not feel confident or secure about.

This card encourages us to plan ahead during times of difficulty, dilemma or confusion.

It also suggests the importance of recognizing when it is time to let go of a situation, even if it feels like the end of something important. If you are feeling stuck in your life or career and can’t seem to get out of a rut, it could be an indication that it’s time for a change.

My thoughts: here we go again with the ending, change and thing I need to let go of, that came up in the spread I did earlier (that I have no idea what it’s referring to). But perhaps it’s just telling me it came into my life to give me a heads up that I need to plan ahead for all contingencies. Or perhaps it’s reminding me that I can get into a rut being retired, just as easily as being stuck in a career, and that I should diversify my interests, learn something new and keep myself occupied.

  1. How should we work together?

I drew The Empress.

Keywords: abundance | generosity | creativity | nurturing | fertility

The Empress is a powerful representation of feminine energy, embodying creativity, nurturing and sensuality. Her presence encourages us to evoke our feminine side through creative expression, free thought and a deeper connection with our senses.

She also reminds us to treat ourselves and others with kindness, compassion, and empathy. Her energy suggests that a comfortable home life, abundance, security and emotional support are essential for our well-being.

The Empress is a gentle reminder to take time for yourself and enjoy the finer things in life, while also giving back and taking care of those around you. She encourages us to deepen our connection with ourselves and others by recognizing the beauty within us all.

My thoughts: I think the deck is telling me not to take the cards too literally, to connect with my intuition and creativity more when working with the deck.

  1. What is your connection to my current life phase?

I drew the Magician.

Keywords: action | manifestation | power | resourcefulness

The Magician is an exceptional symbol of manifesting one’s desires. It signifies that you have the power to use the resources around you and utilize them to realize your dreams.

The presence of this card in a tarot reading suggests that it is time to take action and confidently make decisions. This can be achieved by creating a vision and focusing your attention on one step at a time to bring you closer to your goal.

The Magician’s appearance indicates you have within yourself all the power and potential necessary to manifest your objectives into something tangible. Be confident in knowing that with focus, commitment and belief, success will follow.

My thoughts: Since this whole reading is about how I can connect with the deck, I’m going to say that I think the deck is telling me that I have all the power and potential within me right now to work with it and that, with focus and commitment on my side, we can make a success of it

  1. What types of reading best suit you?

I drew the Five of Cups.

Keywords: disappointment | regret | sadness | pessimism

When the Five of Cups appears in a reading, it can signify a situation that has not gone according to plan. It can indicate that you are disappointed or let down by how things have turned out and may even regret the decisions you made to get you there. Weighed down by emotional baggage from the past, you may feel unable to move forward.

The Five of Cups suggests that it is time to reflect on the lessons you have learned - having gone through that experience, you are stronger and more prepared now. Through understanding all this, you will be able to forgive, move on and come back into balance to manifest a better outcome next time.

My thoughts: This seems to be telling me that a simple past, present and future spread would suit it best, it would be able to show me elements in the past that I need to be aware of, to prepare for the future.

  1. What guidance can you offer me at this moment?

I drew the Five of Wands.

Keywords: conflict | disagreements | tension | competition

When the Five of Wands appears in a reading, in indicates tension and strife. This can manifest in several ways, from irritable individuals looking to start a conflict, to friends or co-workers involved in disputes that have reached boiling point. There may be no apparent purpose to the argument other than simply arguing.

The Five of Wands can also represent a situation where there are conflicting opinions, and no one is willing to compromise, thus resulting in an impasse.

The Five of Wands often warns of a person or situation that is confrontational and aggressive. Try to step back and de-escalate the situation to make progress and get everyone working together again.

My thoughts: Well this isn’t very helpful. It’s hard to see how this may be guidance, which was specifically what the question was. But… maybe it’s saying that it, the deck, and I, are in conflict. Perhaps one or other of us is being confrontational (I would say it’s the deck, but that’s just me) And it suggests I step back and de-escalate the situation. So perhaps the guidance it is giving me is simply to not ask it specific questions like in this spread and go back to simple three card, past-present-future spreads to take the heat off and let us work together again.

So - how did I do?

Oh I love this! I’m not skilled in Tarot (yet!) but I think you did a great job!

Ok, so solely going off meanings here and not seeing/feeling the cards so take this with a grain of salt. Just trying to offer another perspective in case anything resonates.

3 of Pentacles as an answer to “What do you want me to know about you?”

I would take this as a misalignment. Do you feel connected to the deck? Maybe it’s a call to trust your intuition more? This is especially hard in the beginning. I’m still struggling with this after two years. You could also pull another card to elaborate on this one. If I were doing this reading I would ask “What is the source of this misalignment?” while pulling the clarifying card.

Wheel of Fortune (reversed) as an answer to “Why have you come into my life?”

Are you in a period of transition where things are not going as expected? If so I would take this to mean that your deck is here to help you work through that.

The Empress as an answer to “How should we work together?”

Be open and trust your inner wisdom. Maybe create a nurturing space for your deck? Light candles, use crystals, cleanse regularly? Just some thoughts. Maybe it’s saying this deck wants to help foster growth, abundance and healing in you? Or both. :slightly_smiling_face:

The Magician as an answer to “What is your connection to my current life phase?”

The Magician is a card of skill, resourcefulness, and manifestation, meaning this deck might be here to remind you that you already have everything you need to navigate this phase—you just need to believe in yourself and channel your energy effectively.

5 of Cups as an answer to “What types of readings best suit you?”

The 5 of Cups suggests that this deck is well-suited for readings that focus on grief, loss, healing, and emotional processing. It might help you reframe your perspective, reminding you to see the cups that are still full rather than focusing solely on what’s been lost.

5 of Wands as an answer to “What guidance can you offer me at this moment?”

Hmm, this question doesn’t specify the guidance is about connecting with the deck. Maybe it is general guidance about the current energy going on in your life?

https://www.sibyltarot.com/five-of-wands-as-present-upright-reversed-tarot-card-meaning/

“If you are asking about the present, and you draw the Five of Wands, it means that you are currently experiencing competition, conflict, or a clash of egos, which may be causing tension and disputes. This card indicates that you are in a situation where differing viewpoints and ambitions are at odds, leading to a challenging environment. It encourages you to view these conflicts as opportunities for growth, urging you to find constructive ways to assert your position while remaining open to the perspectives of others.”

Does this resonate at all?

Overall I think you did a good job. Tarot has a very steep learning curve in the beginning and it’s really hard to balance and blend traditional meanings with intuition. And these are some complicated questions as far as tarot spreads go.

If it were me, I’d pay attention to how the connection with the deck feels. There are some decks I really wanted to love but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t connect. Some were VERY misaligned and others just felt like…nothing. Then I found the one that seemed to perfectly resonate with me. That was my fourth deck.

@SerenFox thank you so much for your input. Yes, I’m finding it hard to trust my intuition. I’ve only been doing tarot since November, so I’m a complete beginner. This is my second deck and I get on a lot better with it than my first one, which was not a Rider-Waite deck. So I’ll keep working with it before giving up.

I think that’s totally normal. It took me so long to even start to trust my intuition more. You are doing awesome. Just out of curiosity, which deck are you using?

The deck is simply called Craft Cards.

Ty for sharing. I really love seeing the different types of artwork.

Why am I up at 2:00 am and I’m not at work?

Try cleansing your deck under the full moon and it may help. Sometimes these things take time.

I have a deck that I love called the Dreamer’s Tarot, but the deck doesn’t like me. I’m going to cleanse her under the full moon and see if she gets a better attitude. I’m glad you made this post or I would have forgotten! I have been asking her simple yes and no questions. Can we get along now? Are you ready to work with me now? I’m giving her one more chance. If we don’t get along after cleansing and charging her under the full moon, then you my friend Jayne have a beautiful new tarot deck. Maybe she was never meant for me. She may have been meant for you all along, even though I purchased her 2 years before we met!

Good idea, of course the full moon will be hidden by rain clouds tonight, but I will set the deck up on a windowsill where she can soak up the energy of the full moon. And I will see how we get on tomorrow.

Working nights :night_with_stars: messes with your inner rhythms, I don’t know how you do it!

I hope it helps! The weather is supposed to be clearing this afternoon, but I’m going to put mine on the windowsill just in case.

I think you did a great job! I can see progress in the way you read the cards based on your first tarot posts to now – you’re doing wonderfully :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’d like to offer my perspective on the cards you pulled, too. Maybe it’ll resonate, maybe not! But let’s see how it goes.

You mentioned that the deck might not be happy with your current working relationship. I think that’s a pretty good interpretation of this card. I think you’ve really hit the nail on the head with the concept of expectations regarding this card and the deck in general. We can often have different expectations for the way we work with tarot, but that’s not always the case.

I think this card may be letting you know that if you go into a reading with this deck wanting a specific answer or expecting a certain type of energy or reading, you’ll get conflicting answers and your reading won’t make sense. If this is the case, it will be important to check your bias and emotions before reading with this deck. Our expectations can be subconscious, making them even harder to be aware of. This makes this a very straightforward, no-nonsense, no-frills tarot deck, in my opinion.

Rather than seeing this as just a card of ending cycles, this card may point to a more general meaning. The Wheel of Fortune is always turning, right? Things are always changing and seasons come and go. This card could be an indication that you’re going through a specific cycle or season right now and the deck is a companion for this cycle. This could mean you only work with this deck in your “beginner” stage, or only for a specific season. The “end of a cycle” and “resisting change” keywords fit in with that, pointing to the limited time the deck can help you, whether that be months or years, only the deck knows.

When I first read that you pulled The Empress for this question, my immediate thought was “like a mother”. Rather than being a tough-love kind of deck – I feel like that would be indicated by the Queen of Swords, personally lol – this deck has a more nurturing energy. It may be telling you that it prefers a more feminine energy, or that it can help you get in touch with the sides of yourself that create abundance in your life. It may also hint at readings that will steer you toward seeing the positive aspects of situations rather than being neutral or negative.

The Magician for this question also connects back to what I said about The Wheel of Fortune Reversed. You’ve embraced a new path – you’re exploring witchcraft, divination, and the more spiritual side of the world. The Magician embodies the phrase “As above, so below”, and that is usually seen in the way he stands with one hand pointed upward and one hand pointed downward. The deck’s current connection could be about helping you step into your power, joining you in the beginning stages of your magical practice.

One thing sticks out to me with this card paired with this question – the past. You mentioned that you think the deck might be telling you that it’s better suited for more general readings such as past/present/future. I think you’re definitely on the right track! I would take that a little further, though, with the part in your explanation about reflecting on the lessons you’ve learned. Rather than a deck meant to interpret events that are happening now or events that will come in the future, the deck might be telling you that it’s hear to help you reflect on what has been and the lessons you’ve learned.

As @SerenFox mentioned, I don’t think this question is regarding the deck itself. It just asks for general guidance. If that’s the case, I would take this card to be a warning to watch for tension and conflict in the day or week. Basing this on the rest of the reading, it may even be a prompt for you to reflect on how you handle tense situations and challenges that show up for you.

I hope this helps and maybe resonates with you! If not, at least it might provide a new perspective on each of the cards you pulled :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thank you for your input @MeganB . A lot of that resonates and makes sense. I have so much to learn!

You’re very welcome! Tarot definitely has a learning curve and can take a while to get the hang of. I think you’re doing a fantastic job, though!
