Invoking the Spirit of Santa Claus 🎅

Thought I’d post this tonight too, just in case you’re decorating this weekend! Hope you like it! It’s another one from Jason Mankey’s Llewellyn’s Little Book of Yule.

Invoking the Spirit of Santa Claus :santa:

I have long loved Santa Claus, and I often visualize him as one of the primary spirits of the Yuletide season. His image is inescapable in December and inspires feelings of happiness and joy. When putting up my Yuletide decoration of him (a large Santa doll), I like to set aside a little time just for Santa Claus and invoke his spirit to bless my home with all the magic and wonder of the holidays. If you’ve got a prized decoration featuring Santa, that would make an excellent focal point for this exercise. If you don’t have a representation of Santa, a printed picture or a red candle would work nicely too. Whatever you work with, set it up in the area of your house that you most associate with Saint Nick, such as a fireplace mantel or wherever the stockings are hung. I also use this invocation of Santa Claus to officially kick off the holidays, and if you’ve got children, inviting him into your home is a great reminder to kids that he’s watching! There’s nothing wrong with using Santa to encourage a little good behavior.

Once you’ve figured out where to put your Santa, hold your Santa decoration (or candle) and approach the area where you will place that item. Envision your happiest holiday moments, whether from Yuletide festivities as an adult or from your childhood. Let those images and feelings wash over you for a moment, then transfer that energy into your representation of Santa. Feel the energy move through your body into your arms and hands and finally into your object representing Mr. Claus. When the Santa object is infused with energy, place it in its designated spot (or light your candle) and say:

I call to Santa Claus, the spirit of the holiday season. Bless this house with love, laughter, and joy, and may it be a space of welcome and comfort for all who enter. Let the energies of peace, kindness, and goodwill be with us this Yuletide, and may we share those energies with others. May the magic and wonder of Yule be present in our rites and celebrations during this year’s observance of the Winter Solstice (or Christmas or whatever holiday you choose). Great gift-giver, share these blessings with us this season so that we may share them with those we love. Harken to us, O Santa Claus, and be with us this Yuletide. Hail and welcome!

If you’re not a big fan of Santa Claus, you can use this invocation with any other gift-giver or holiday spirit; just swap out the Santa name. If your representation of Santa also contains Mrs. Claus, she’s easy enough to add in here as well! This invocation also works well in rituals and at the start of holiday parties and can be repeated anytime you need a little extra Yuletide magic.
