It sounds like you’ve found someone you really connect with - I’m so happy for you! 
As for the “professional spell castor”, it does sound like they make money from preying on people, which is a very sad way to practice (and gives legitimate spiritual workers a bad name).
It’s always hard to cut losses, but it sounds like you made the right call to cut ties with them and take matters into your own hands.

When it comes to casting spells, intention is vital. And no one wants the result to manifest more than the person making the wish - that is, you! As the person closest to the spell and the one who desires it most, you are in the best and strongest place to cast your spell. And, like Mystique said, it may be easier than you think - not to mention all the help and advice you here with your coven! 
Hex removal is a pretty simple first step. I like this simple hex removal spell with cinnamon and a green candle:
If you’re looking for something with a little more oomph, there are spells called “Back to Sender”. These types of spells not only remove the hex/curse from someone, they take the extra step of sending the hex back to whoever cast it. As such, Back to Sender spells are considered to be gray magick and may not align with everyone’s personal magickal ethics.

A note that, if cast as intended (to remove a hex/curse) if there isn’t a hex or curse on the person, there won’t be any results. It’s kind of a no harm, no foul type of spell (but again, every witch has the right to form their own opinion about hex removals/back to senders).
Binding spells are different than curses or hexes - binds (sometimes called energy cords) are the bonds that exist between people. If you wish to cut a bind, a Cord Cutting Spell might be what you are looking for.
In my experience, these tend to be very decisive and final. It can be hard to “go back” or “undo” a cord that has been cut. It is also recommended, as with most spells, that the person directly involved with the bind do the cutting themselves.
